Electrical Engineering - Energy Industrial Placement

Job Description

This role is a 6-12 month industrial placement within the Energy Systems Electrical Advisory team in either Brighton/Glasgow/Belgrade.

Within the Electrical Advisory team, we work on a large range of projects in a variety of different roles. You can expect to gain valuable experience across different aspects of the Energy Transmission and Distribution sector.

Example project areas include:

  • HVDC interconnectors
  • 275kV/400kV grid connections (cables/substations)
  • Offshore Transmission Operators (OFTOs)
  • Grid stability services (Synchronous Condensers etc)
  • Power capture/storage

Opportunities may include:

  • Technical Advisory
  • Optioneering studies
  • Pre-FEED studies
  • Feasibility studies
  • Lender’s Technical Advisor
  • Red Flag/Due Diligence reports
  • Construction monitoring
  • Owner’s Engineer
  • Design reviews against specifications
  • Construction monitoring

Candidate Specification

To join us for an industrial trainee placement you must currently be at university. You’ll be working with graduates, experienced professionals, and other students - so a placement with us is the perfect opportunity to learn from a variety of people while understanding our values and culture. It’s also a great chance to get involved with real projects while gaining relevant experience.

We encourage our all engineers to be forward thinking, so please bring along your new ideas, enthusiasm, and inquisitive nature to the placement.

We do not have a formal structure for our placements, so you can really make the role your own. The more you get involved and the more questions you ask, the more you will gain from your experience with us.

You will be studying towards a degree in one of the following subjects:

  • Electrical Engineering (or similar such as Electrical and Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical etc)

We are looking for students with the following characteristics:

  • A methodical approach to problem solving.
  • The ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail with the ability to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.
