Operations Engineering Placement

Join us at RWE Offshore Wind for a year in industry placement and gain invaluable insight into this truly unique and innovative sector. We’re one of the largest developers of offshore wind globally and we’re on a journey of significant growth driven by our Growing Green investment strategy and commitment to net zero. With 10 operational offshore wind farms across the UK, and multiple development projects in the pipeline, there has never been a more exciting time to join us.

We can offer you:

  • A chance to work alongside world leading experts as a core member of the team
  • Real, hands-on experience, assisting us to solve complex problems – we will value your innovative and fresh thinking
  • A chance to be embedded in projects from day one, enabling you to apply your knowledge and rapidly acquire new, marketable skills
  • An attractive salary (circa £22k pa) and an extensive range of benefits
  • Support, training and mentoring to get the most from your time with us – we’ll work with you to understand your career interests and ambitions

Your opportunity

At the heart of our UK operations effort, you’ll join a committed and diverse team working to keep our wind farms effectively maintained and operating at maximum efficiency, powering hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses across the UK.

You’ll have the opportunity to experience the full scope of Offshore Windfarm operations, be empowered to make decisions and create a tangible impact on our business. Working as a valued part of our team at Robin Rigg, we’ll ensure you feel fully integrated into our community with a chance to see first-hand how your work is making a difference.

Importantly, you will have plenty of opportunity to go offshore, gaining first-hand experience of working on offshore turbines (we will of course make sure you’re fully trained to do so – we’ll support you through full GWO training and advanced first aid). Your role will make a critical contribution to our overall engineering strategy - with a particular focus on planning for end of asset life - supporting us to keep the blades turning and maximise output.

You’ll have the chance to get involved in numerous projects:

  • Developing an overarching asset and a main components strategy
  • Developing a range of metrics around obsolescence and feeding this into our annual planning process
  • Reviewing some of our critical processes (e.g. managing cable terminations) and making recommendations for improvements
  • Taking the lead on a continuous improvement project. This exciting part of the role will enable you to hone a number of project management, analytical and communication skills

About you

  • It’s likely you’ll be an undergraduate studying electrical, mechanical or another engineering discipline - with an option to undertake a full year in industry placement in your penultimate year. We’re looking for people on track to gain a 2.1 or higher
  • Highly analytical and enjoy getting into the detail, you can also think creatively
  • You’re confident in your communication skills – both written and verbal
  • You can demonstrate that you are able to co-ordinate your own workload, be highly organised and meet tight deadlines
  • You have a good knowledge of basic Microsoft packages (e.g. word, excel, powerpoint, outlook)
  • You’re comfortable working in a team environment and feel excited about developing new skills in stakeholder and project management
