Cyber Security Placement

The Opportunity

Working as part of a dynamic and entrepreneurial team, this placement role will be based at our London Head Office. Alpha is seeking a bright and proactive university student who is looking to join a Cyber Security team with a collaborative culture that is both challenging and highly rewarding.

The role will cover Security Operations, Administration and Engineering across both On-Premises and Cloud (namely Amazon (AWS), Microsoft Azure and M365).
This Placement opportunity is for 12 months, although the start and end date can be flexible. This role is office based.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security management of security controls covering Applications, Services, Cloud, End Users, Platforms and Infrastructures, across a global enterprise landscape.
  • Researching/evaluating emerging cybersecurity threats and ways to manage them.
  • Actively monitoring for possible digital attacks, breaches, unusual, and unauthorised activities that violate corporate security policies.
  • Working to raise user awareness through recurring social engineering campaigns and training to strengthen organisational resilience.
  • Scheduling and assessing vulnerability scans and providing custom reporting for remediation and compliance.
  • Investigating and recording adverse security events and providing incident response steps.
  • Maintaining security incident response playbooks as part of continuous improvements to incident management and response.
  • Reviewing identity and access management audit logs, including monitoring for potential abuse of permissions/privileges by authorised system users.
  • Evaluating and demonstrating the feasibility of new security solutions against required sets of security criteria during proof-of-concept.
  • Raising the Information and Cybersecurity team's profile by maintaining an excellent professional relationship with business users, stakeholders, asset and data owners, and external suppliers concerning cybersecurity questions, advice, and issues.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest cybersecurity and technology evolutions and recommend security improvements to the infrastructure, where necessary.
  • Documentin security processes, configurations, practises and guides.

Skills & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a proactive, highy technical, and motivated security practitioner who keeps abreast of security trends, best practise, challenges, issues and threats.
  • Be able to manage a variety of tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Have experience in security documentation.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to confidently communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have knowledge, insight, skills and experience across AppSec, DevSecOps, Security in the SDLC, Security in DevOps pipeline, IaC (infrastructure as Code), container security and cloud security highly valued.
  • Have knowledge of threat modelling and adversary tactics such as STRIDE, MITRE ATT&CK, DREAD.
  • Have some understanding of security best practise including security frameworks and controls, such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, CIS, NIST, OWASP, NCSC.
  • Have sufficient understanding of security risks associated with various technologies and ways to manage them.
  • Have knowledge and experience of various technologies and security controls such as DLP, SIEM, CASB or behavioural analytics tools, vulnerability management tools, anti-malware and web protection solutions.
  • Amazon (AWS) cloud security skills, Microsoft Azure, M365 and Salesforce experience/skills are not essential but are highly valued.
