Communications Placement

The Internal Communications team’s main purpose is to engage and motivate colleagues, enabling them to understand their role in delivering our strategic objectives and business goals, whilst aligning with our company values and culture. We are looking for someone to join our team and pick up the reigns quickly to drive our internal communications and employee engagement, encouraging our colleagues to give their best each day.

You’ll be involved in a broad range of strategic initiatives from culture change and diversity and inclusion to charity and sustainability. The right candidate will be a people person, who is a strong communicator and enjoys forming and building relationships. We are looking for someone with great ideas and creative flair, who has media skills such as video creation and editing, photography and Photoshop.

As a key member of the team, you will support the Internal Communications team in delivering business-wide communications and events to ensure that our colleagues are informed, engaged and connected.

No day is the same. One day you’ll be creating our colleague newsletter and the next you’ll be assisting with organising an event for our 1200 strong work force. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, trying new things, thinking outside of the box and really making a difference, then this is the role for you

What you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the team with all VWFS internal communications activity, from our company intranet to delivering and organising colleague events.
  • Maintaining a detailed annual communications plan, to keep the team focused and delivering at pace and on time.
  • Writing and distributing internal communications and working on employee engagement campaigns.
  • Providing creative and logistical support for all communications and engagement activities to the wider business.
  • Support with logistics and preparations for internal events and stakeholder meetings including creating slides and materials. This includes creating all promotional material and filming/editing any post event videos.
  • Liaising with key stakeholders in the business to help share desired messages with our colleagues, whether it’s about an IT system upgrade or how to book holiday.
  • Managing analytics and reporting on the effectiveness of how we communicate our messages to the business and make recommendations for improvements in order to increase employee awareness and engagement.
  • Be involved in Marketing and Innovation team engagement and development activities.

About you:

  • Studying towards a Communications, Marketing, Media or Business related degree.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet short deadlines.
  • Video editing ability and creative skills using Adobe.
  • A good communicator with the ability to form credible relationships across all levels of the business and manage key stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Emotionally intelligent, resilient and energetic.
  • Excellent written communication and proof reading skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, emphasis on quality and consistency.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in simplifying complex information for different audiences.
  • Drive and ability to work under tight timelines.
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Creative approach to problem solving.
  • An energetic approach to work.
  • Highly PC literate, especially in the use of MS Office.

What you’ll get: (apart from a wealth of experience for the future…)

  • Earn whilst you learn and receive a competitive salary of £17,500 per annum plus discretionary bonus and access to company pension scheme.
  • A fun and sociable workplace to start your career. You’ll be joining a cohort of around 50 undergraduates so you’ll have a large group of colleagues so that you can support each other throughout your placement year.
  • Participate in Lifeskills workshops, designed specifically for our Undergraduates.
  • Access to a discounted loan car scheme which means driving 2 brand new vehicles during your placement (a great way to make your mates jealous when you visit them at Uni).
  • Chance to make a difference in the local community with various volunteering opportunities.
  • Onsite wellbeing centre – think lunchtime massages, onsite HIIT classes and health check-ups.
  • There will be a hybrid blend of working in our office based in Milton Keynes and working from home.
