Commercial Banking Internship

About the business
Our goal in Commercial Banking is to build strong relationships and help UK businesses thrive in an ever-changing world. This supports our vision to be a relationship bank for a digital world, one that supports customers at every stage of their lifecycle through our face-to-face, direct and digital channels.

From entrepreneurial start-ups to FTSE100 customers, we provide comprehensive banking services across a range of UK businesses, including debt financing, transaction services and innovative banking solutions.

About the programme

With a choice of Relationship Management or Customer Products & Propositions, our aim is to give you a taste of what it’s like to work here, along with valuable experience to help guide your career choices.
On our Relationship Management programme you’ll intimately assess customer needs, design and deliver solutions, whilst building strong relationships across a range of customers and channels.

If you join our Customer Products & Propositions programme you’ll analyse customer journeys, creating new products and ways to better serve our Commercial Banking customers including through our popular digital channels.

We’ll reward you with a starting salary of £21,500.
This eight week summer internship will give you first-hand experience of the work we do in our Commercial Banking business.

You’ll learn more about:

  • Our culture, values and goals, the products and services we provide
  • How we work together to deliver an outstanding service for our customers
  • What it’s like to work in a purpose led organisation that puts the customer at the heart of decision making

The programme starts with an induction, where you’ll learn about what we do, meet other interns, and get the chance to talk with colleagues from around our business.

You’ll then begin your placement, where you’ll attend training workshops, get involved with our day to day work, and take part in a business improvement project. This’ll give you the opportunity to complete research on a topic and come up with recommendations for improvement or change to support our ambitions.

During the programme, you’ll also work on a Social Impact Project. This’ll help you to develop keys skills covering team working, planning, creative thinking, business plan writing and problem solving – all while contributing to a valuable cause.

For the full eight weeks, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ and a line manager, who’ll help you develop your network and provide guidance and support.
At the end of the placement, we’ll assess you on what you’ve learned. Complete this successfully and you’ll be offered a place on our 2023 Commercial Banking graduate programme, where you can carry the skills you’ve learnt forward and take the next step in your career.
