Communications - 12 Month Placement, Wales

In the 12-month Communications Placement, you'll gain invaluable skills and experience in covering all aspects of business communications from media relations to employee engagement. You will be working across different channels, developing internal communications strategies and working to ensure that all employees get the information they need in the best way for them.

In a bit more detail this placement will include:

  • Supporting the transition to a new intranet system and maintaining updates for various teams
  • Managing internal communications systems (TV Screens, posters, boards etc.)
  • Creation and management of site wide communications and tracking click and read rates
  • Collate and distribute the weekly business report to employees across the business (and the creation and editing of the accompanying video content)
  • Support the work of the Wales Inclusion Council with activity across Inclusion & Diversity, Health & Wellbeing, STEM & Schools and Giving & Volunteering, with a special focus on STEM and School engagement
  • Distribute the weekly EHS Review on behalf of EHS to employees
  • Responsible for all departmental purchases and payments through internal finance platforms
  • Provide departmental communications support to teams across the site (EHS, Finance, HR etc)
  • Film, edit and distribute internal videos – working closely with departments to capture new and developing projects to be shared internally, ensuring any external material follows approval processes
  • Organise and host site visits and deliver presentations to visitors – COVID dependent

Useful Information

  • All placements are available to penultimate/final year students and will start between June to August 2022, for a duration of 12 months.

  • The selection stages include online assessments, video interview and a final round interview.

GE Aviation Wales specialises in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of a range of commercial jet engines. The facility, based in Nantgarw, just North of Cardiff, occupies over 1.2 million square foot of workshop space and has two state-of-the-art aircraft engine testing facilities, along with a significant repair capability – known as Component Repair Wales.

The site has the capability to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services for a range of engine types – including the world’s most powerful commercial aircraft engine the GE90 115B and the world’s most popular commercial engine the CFM56.

As one of the largest commercial aircraft engine maintenance facilities in the world, with annual sales of over $2.9bn, the business works with over 90 customers worldwide, including Emirates, TUI, Lufthansa, Delta, United, ANA and British Airways.

In 2017, GE Aviation Wales was selected as the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility of choice for the GE9X; which will become the world’s largest and most fuel-efficient jet engine when it launches into service. The business will benefit from a £5m investment from the Welsh Government to support the total £20m investment put forward by the business, to equip and upskill the facility to be ready to maintain the GE9X fleet when it enters service on the new Boeing 777X aircraft.
