Summer Internship

Programme Length: Ten weeks
Programme Type: Summer placement

At the FCA, there’s no ordinary day – in fact, many days are extraordinary.

Our Summer Internship Programme gives you valuable insight into the FCA and financial services market, and provides you with an opportunity for real responsibility while you’re with us. You’ll sit within one of our departments and have the chance to work alongside experts in their field. For example, you could be placed within the Strategy & Competition team where you’ll conduct market studies and analysis to shape future policy decisions, or you could sit in our Enforcement team where you will be collating and analysing data to hold those suspected of serious misconduct accountable. In our Supervision team, you’ll use your analytical skills to obtain, review, organise and draw conclusions from complex data sets.

Whichever team you end up in, you’ll be showing us your potential and we’ll show you what a regulatory career is really like. You’ll experience first-hand the breadth and diversity of work we do here at the FCA, and learn from the brightest minds in the industry through learning lunches and speaker sessions from our senior leaders. You’ll also be paired with one of our current graduates to help you build your professional network. By the end of the programme you’ll be able to decide whether a regulatory career is for you – and successful interns could be offered a place on one of our graduate programmes at the end of the summer.

What we look for

We’re not prescriptive when it comes to your background, all we ask is that you’re in your penultimate year of study and on track to gain a 2:1 degree or equivalent. Most importantly, we’re looking for passion, integrity, ambition and aptitude.

We want you to use and build upon the transferrable skills from your degree; working collaboratively and being strategically minded to solve problems and form judgements.

What we offer

At the FCA you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference. We offer all our students on our Summer Internship Programme a competitive salary of £24,000 (pro rata).

We’re proud to be a Stonewall Top 100 employer and we were recently awarded “Employer of the Year” at the Women in Finance awards. We’re also signatories of the #NoBystanders pledge and Disability Confident scheme, which guarantees disabled people an interview if they meet the minimum requirements for a job vacancy.

We value the views of our people and listening to them is central to our success. This is why our staff network groups play such a significant role. They shape the environment we work in, the way we interact with one another and the way that we make our decisions. We want our people to be engaged and productive while at work, so we’re committed to creating an environment that enables you to do your best work while maintaining your other commitments. To support this, we offer flexible working arrangements, the opportunity to work from home, a number of career and family leave provisions, and generous annual leave so you can take time off when you need or want to.
