Who you are?

You have an analytical mind and a flair for financial planning. You’re enthusiastic about your work, enjoy collaborating with others and have the skills and ability to communicate with a variety of different audiences.

This is an excellent scheme which provides exposure to difference areas and aspects of finance. We invest in our placements because we want them to be the future of our business. We are looking for new entrants who are driven, hardworking and demonstrate Network Rail’s values and behaviours.

When is the scheme?

June to August 2021 for 10 weeks

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll carry out one 10 week placement as an assistant management accountant or an assistant financial accountant. You could be part of a team affecting critical decisions throughout our organisation. Working alongside some of the most respected finance professionals in the industry, you’ll experience a variety of financial disciplines including reporting and analysis, periodic accounting and planning.

You’ll also have the opportunity to take part in experience days, site visits and shadowing. At the end of your placement we’ll ask you to put together a short presentation to reflect on your experiences and help improve the scheme for future intakes. You will also be considered for the following year’s graduate scheme.

Entry requirements

  • You must be in your penultimate year of university and be on course to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree subject.

Why you should choose this placement

This short-term placement offers a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the various aspects of the finance function. You are provided support from senior finance professionals to enable you to make a contribution from day one. The scheme is run by the Finance Strategy and Transformation team and our current graduates act as mentors to new recruits. There are only a small number of summer placements available which means, if you’re successful, you’ll be highly visible across the finance function.

Many students go on to make successful applications to the graduate scheme and now hold senior positions within the finance team.
