Finance & Accounting Placement

FDS, A DXC Technology Company was formed from a merger between HPE and CSC. We provide specialised IT services to well-recognised business clients across 9 European countries. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the integrity of the management and statutory accounts in the UK and Ireland where the business worth is £57 million per annum.

An Accounting internship at FDS will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and experience to help build the foundations for your future career. You will be given key responsibilities which will have a real impact on the business and success of the finance team. Your role will be to business partner 10 Service Delivery Managers assisting them in making key financial decisions as well as accounting for Third-Party Spend.

Role Details:

  • Based at Royal Pavilion, Aldershot, Hampshire
  • 13-14 month placement beginning in June 2020
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • BPSS clearance provided

What will your role involve?

Month End Accounting

  • Working individually and supporting the team with a fast-paced month-end close
  • Preparing and posting journals using SAP
  • Prepare and monitor accruals and prepayments using raw third party data
  • Performing analysis on the overall integrity of the P&L
  • Providing detailed billing reports for customer accounts
  • Liaising with Procurement and Business Managers to ensure timely recognition of costs

Business Partnering

  • Provide Business Partner support to Managers, acting as a trusted finance expert and dealing with ad-hoc queries
  • Monthly finance reviews with your Service Delivery Managers
  • Presentation of financial performance data to senior managers
  • Assist in the forecast and budget processes including monthly variance analysis

Project Activity

  • Responsibility to plan and organise the Intern Recruitment Program for 2021/22
  • Plan a minimum of two volunteering days for the wider finance and head office teams
  • Miscellaneous projects as allocated by the Finance Manager/Senior Analysts

Other Requirements / Activities

  • Management of the FDS Finance Inbox and associated ad-hoc tasks
  • Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and reviews
  • Assist with internal and external audits and analysis
  • Ensure we operate with a high level of financial integrity
  • Operate within the Corporate Standards of Business Conduct, abiding by Health & Safety Rules, relevant Accounting Standards and all other appropriate Governance structures

What FDS is looking for?

  • Currently studying an Accounting or Finance degree with a minimum achievement of a 2:1 during your second year
  • Strong MS Excel skills are essential, preferably with an understanding of macros
  • The ability to write VBA/advanced Macros would be a bonus
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels with both financial and non-financial management and colleagues
  • Ability to work independently, with the highest degree of accuracy
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be highly organised with exceptional time management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads
  • Strong technical and analytical accounting skills
  • Current full UK driving license

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment with the finance team, with their full support during the demanding aspects of the role.

The successful candidate would be expected to reside locally or commute daily to our head office.
