Manufacturing Engineering Placement

Global Power Solutions Division (GPSD) deliver operational excellence in manufacturing Diesel and Gas Driven Generating Sets and Equipment. We have an exciting opportunity for an industrial placement to join our Large Electric Power team based in Larne. Based in our Manufacturing Engineering Team, working with others across our organization, you would be directly involved and at the heart of our business, participating on strategic projects driving continuous improvement, efficiency gain and cost reduction.

What experiences can you offer me?

The Manufacturing Engineering Team are responsible for leading production employees to execute the assembly, test and paint processes within the manufacturing facility, to deliver a world-class product to our customers. This role utilises the Caterpillar Production System (Lean Manufacturing) values to deliver People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) improvements and results.

During the placement, you will be based within the Manufacturing Engineering team working on real projects, alongside experienced manufacturing engineers:

  • Gaining first-hand experience of Lean Manufacturing principles,
  • Supporting efficiency improvement initiatives at the facility
  • Updating production standard work documentation.

You will be given all the support you require to be successful in your placements.

Communication and presentational skills are a must as you’d need to package clear strategic recommendations based on data and sell them confidently to production and management employees.

For the role, you should be on track or have achieved a 2:2 in one of the following degrees:

  • Automotive Engineering
  • Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering
  • Computer Science & Electronics Engineering
  • Control Systems Engineering
  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Engineering Science
  • Integrated Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Other related degrees will also be considered.
