Finance Intern

The Broughton Plant is responsible for manufacturing the plane wings that are then transported via plane or truck to Final Assembly Lines around Europe. Therefore, the finance team in Broughton is responsible for preparing budgets, cost reports and forecasts for each wing type. As a member of the team in Broughton, you are able to see the wings in production around the factory and the Beluga flying in and out several times a day to transport wings which is an amazing sight!

Tasks:

Cost Accounting

The Cost Accounting Department is responsible for the data integrity and accurate reporting of Airbus UK Operational Costs. Our department services the needs of the Financial Controlling Organisation in order to analyse the actuals and prepare forecasts and budgets and aid business decision making. We also produce information to compile the Financial Statements which are released to Airbus Central for Consolidated Reporting to Airbus Shareholders.

Your responsibilities will cover routine tasks to complete the monthly accounts for Cost Centre Controlling to a required standard, maintaining the quality and accuracy of the Internal Costs reported for Airbus Operations UK and ensuring the accuracy of their allocation across Products and Programmes. As well as routine tasks, you will be given project based activities, giving you the opportunity to enhance current processes or develop new ones, to help improve the quality of the Cost Centre data and to provide harmonisation across a transnational organisation.

Filton Plant Manufacturing Team

The Filton plant controlling team is based in Filton within the manufacturing environment and as such you will have the opportunity to gain real life experience within a manufacturing environment in a responsible but supported role.

The team is responsible for the accurate reporting to the Filton plant management which includes weekly performance as well as monthly and annual financial results. In addition the team provides ah-hoc information along with scenario planning and business case support.

Key tasks would include; preparing weekly Performance information for the Plant, supporting financial control of monthly reporting, forecasting, budgeting and planning as well as providing ongoing support to the operational managers. You will also be engaged in team building activities, assisting in Charity Challenge and helping to organise team events as required.

Facilities Management & Real Estate

The Facilities Management and Real Estate team is responsible for ensuring that the business can operate to its full potential by providing state of the art facilities and work spaces. The team is responsible for capital and operational expenditure across Airbus commercial sites (Filton and Broughton) and Airbus Defence and Space sites (Newport, Stevenage and Portsmouth). Providing financial control for a budget in excess of €200m the team works in a dynamic, fast paced environment.

Key responsibilities include forecasting, budgeting and variance reporting. Running of month end processes including the compiling, validating and submitting of significant accruals and provisions as well as Completing and presenting various financial management reports. In addition, you will need to maintain a strong working relationship with commercial and Defence and Space colleagues.

Government Financial Affairs

The Government Financial Affairs team is responsible for all financial matters relating to Government, regional and European Commission funding. As part of a small dynamic team based in Filton you will take responsibility for preparation of cost statements, liaison with auditors for externally funded projects, invoicing to partners, reconciliation of General Ledger accounts, review/updating of departmental processes and provide support to assist in the management of contracts. In addition the team provides local financial support to the UK research teams and you will be responsible for preparation of monthly reporting, maintenance of the work breakdown structure and providing ad-hoc financial support.

Skills:

Our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • You must be an undergraduate for the full duration of the placement, with a keen interest in Accounting & Finance (must have completed a minimum of 2 years).
  • Good understanding of MS Office packages, particularly Excel
  • Good at Team work
  • Ability to work autonomously on own initiative
  • Good interpersonal skills & communication skills; verbal and written
  • Strong academic background
  • Demonstrate confidence and Proactivity to drive improvements
  • Drive to develop yourself and others
  • Logical / analytical approach to problem solving
  • Curious to understand why and the bigger picture
  • Ability to explain accounting concepts to Non Finance
  • Ability to work in accordance with tight deadlines and maintain quality of output
  • Some work experience in a Finance capacity would be beneficial (but not essential)
