About the role:

This internship is a rotational program, with 4 month spells in Tax, Accounting and Business Control respectively. Throughout the duration of the internship, work will be focused primarily on projects in each area, with some element of involvement in regular reporting activities to help build your wider business understanding. Providing support to the Chief Accountants and Finance Managers across the finance function in relation to various finance activities undertaken within the service centre.

Responsibilities:

Tax

  • Assist in development of in-house systems and processes for legislative changes in multiple countries
  • Input into data extraction and analysis for the corporation tax returns
  • Assist Tax Accountant and Tax Manager with elements of VAT and Corporation Tax month-end reporting

Accounting

  • Develop an understanding of the markets covered for group reporting purposes
  • Drive improvement in reconciliation control for accounting purposes
  • Responsibility for assisting in month-end reporting, including direct responsibility for the preparation of certain reconciliations for review by Chief Accountants

Business Control

  • Market/commercial analysis and regular performance report input
  • Assistance in preparation of bi-annual budget/forecasting
  • Responsibility for month-end reporting of Brexit-related market analysis

The existing team leaders and their line manager will support the successful candidate in their development in this role.

Other Duties:

In addition to the core elements, this new role will also support the wider remit of the Volvo Financial Services team, with a range of tasks to support team deliverables & providing a broader placement experience for the successful applicant.

  • General assistance to other members of the team as required
  • Any other duties as assigned

Competencies, skills and knowledge required:

  • Good knowledge / understanding of key accounting concepts
  • Skilled in problem solving and proactive resolution of tasks
  • Ability to manage to deadlines and prioritise daily workload
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrating an ability and desire to work successfully as part of a diverse team
  • Strong analytical skills as well as holistic thinking and an appetite to learn new skills
  • High level of accuracy and reliability
  • High level of PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word) desirable
  • Advanced level of English (oral/written)

Current degree requirements:

  • Studying for a related business / management degree (accounting/finance/economics preferable, but not essential).
  • 2 years completed – placement between 2nd & 3rd study years.
  • Academic grades on track for a First or High 2:1 on their chosen studies
