Manufacturing Engineering Summer Internship

Designing world-leading power systems is one thing. Actually seeing those designs through to fruition is something else entirely. And that’s where our Manufacturing Engineering team comes in. Join them as a summer intern, and you’ll get an insight into how we ensure we can deliver on our promises and achieve the most exacting standards. Life in this team is about continually developing processes, acquiring capabilities and exploiting technologies that will keep us at the forefront of global manufacturing. As a summer intern, you’ll gain an appreciation of how we transform ideas into physical products, and billion-pound order books into profitable reality.

The programme

On our 10-week Manufacturing Engineering Summer Internship Programme, you’ll be located at one of our manufacturing facilities across the UK. Whether you’re working for us in Civil Aerospace, Defence or Power Systems, you can look forward to undertaking a real project. You’ll be working in capability acquisition, product introduction or continuous improvement, so you’ll gain an insight into how we work in one area of the manufacturing lifecycle. Along the way, you’ll learn from experts and be taught valuable skills. And if you perform well, you could be invited to join our graduate programme – a fantastic start to a career with a world leading industrial technology company.

If you’re a student member of an institute, experience gained on your internship can be used to credit some of your learning towards your graduate programme and chartership status if you choose to join us.

What you’ll do

The project you deliver will vary depending on our business needs and where you’re based. You could be part of a team improving a manufacturing process, or involved in developing technology to help introduce a new product into manufacture. Some of our summer interns will get the chance to work in central teams where they can help to transform the way we undertake manufacturing engineering across all of our facilities. The opportunity to make an impact, and a good impression, is huge.

What you’ll need

We want to see great communication skills developed through well-rounded life experience – academically, socially and in any previous work situations. Technical abilities are a must, so you’ll need to be on track to achieve at least a 2:1 bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maths, a relevant Physical Science or Computer Science (or an equivalent qualification). Flexibility is important too, as you could be based at any of our sites.

What you’ll get

  • £17,850 pa (pro rata)
  • Learn from experts
  • The chance to join our graduate programme if you perform well
  • Leisure facilities and numerous sports societies
