Cyber Data Science Internship

G-Research is looking for an exceptional Machine Learning / Data Science PhD Intern to join our Cyber Security Data Science team. The work is at the exciting intersection of Machine Learning, Big Data, and Cyber Security.

The Information Security team processes almost 1TB of data per day from numerous sources, including network activity, video footage and textual data. An ongoing transition to a Hadoop/Spark Big Data platform provides many opportunities to research against live data. The team is multi-disciplinary and has a mix of experienced data scientists, data engineers, developer and “blue team” security experts.

The G-Research Security team aspires to be a leader in AI & ML innovation for cyber security. The team will contribute to open source Apache Metron, with a view to establish it as a leading platform for security incident discovery, alerting and investigation. AI in cyber-security is still at its infancy compared to other well-known areas (image recognition, autonomous cars, etc.). This internship presents the opportunity to shape the future of the field.

The candidate is expected to:

  • Apply his/her expertise by developing novel quantitative ideas for detecting today’s cyber threats.
  • Apply and develop machine learning algorithms to that end
  • Have scalability and distributed environment in mind when developing solutions

We are looking for a candidate who is:

  • A strong PhD student in a numerical subject (Machine Learning, NLP, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, etc.). Candidates who are pursuing a leading Masters in Machine Learning/NLP will also be considered.
  • Practical experience coding in a programming language (Python, R, Matlab, C++, …)
  • Ability to think creatively and ask insightful questions
  • Positive Attitude and Willingness to Learn

Ideally, you will have:

  • First-author top-tier publications in your field (e.g. if you work in Machine Learning, we expect publications in NIPS, ICML, etc.

A plus, if you have:

  • Contribution to Open Source repositories/competitions (e.g. GitHub, Kaggle)
  • Track record of achieving excellency as demonstrated by scholarships, grants, fellowships, patents,...

No security knowledge is needed or expected.
