Marketing and Communications Placement

Oracle is looking for motivated, ambitious university student or soon to be graduate to join us for a 12-month internship.

We are looking for individuals studying for a University degree in Journalism or Media and Communications (or similar) to join our Internal Communications team. You’ll be fluent in English and want to help drive employee engagement through great communication, using all the modern tools and techniques you’d expect from a world class technology company.

The Programme

This is a 12 month paid Internship. While working with Oracle, you will take part in communication training and work on projects where you’ll make a real impact.

You will be based at our Reading Campus, a short (free) bus ride from Reading Station or at our London Moorgate office, a short walk from Moorgate or Liverpool Street tube stations.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate student with an Industrial Placement requirement.
  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with superb attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills including basic knowledge of HTML, Photoshop and Video editing software
  • Experience of working on large scale events
  • Some experience of writing/blogging is desirable and some international experience would be an advantage

Other Information:

All training will be provided in best practice communication planning, modern writing styles, tone of voice, branding, tools and platforms to enhance existing knowledge.

There are three main areas where this knowledge will be put into practice:

Supporting High Profile Internal Events:

The Internal Communications team are responsible for a number of exciting LIVE all employee Townhalls each year. These events help staff understand our strategy and priorities, showcase our technologies and build a sense of pride in working for Oracle.

Working with the communication team you will help deliver four of these events including; agreeing objectives and messaging, developing impactful communication plans, writing engaging material, creating innovative content using video, social media, mobile apps and powerpoint; completing event logistics and collecting and analysing feedback to optimise future Townhalls.

Social Digital Media:

The world of work is changing fast – in fact faster than ever before. Internal Communication needs to be responsive to the changing communication needs of our workforce. One element of this is looking to the future and planning how best to harness new opportunities tools and techniques.

In your first few months you’ll work with the Head of Internal Comms and the EMEA Social Media Manager to review the current use of social and digital in the UK. By actively engaging and posting on our current platform you’ll make recommendations for how optimise its use in the UK.

You will also study how other best of breed companies are innovating to improve employee engagement and exploring for example what opportunities tools such as Snapchat, hold for our business in the future.

Our expectation is that you will create a written report with your recommendations to the Head of Internal Communications at the end of your placement.

Communication of Key Charity Initiatives:

At Oracle, we know it’s important to be a successful business, but we also know we have a responsibility to the wider community. You will help work on the communication plan and content for two of our UK charity partners fundraisers; the Prince’s Trust Palace to Palace Bike Ride and Comic Reliefs Red Nose Day 2018.

Working with the wider charity teams your role will be to help drive maximum participation and fundraising. You’ll need to use all your communication knowledge and expertise, bags of energy, a sense of fun and hard work but we’re sure you’ll find your participation both rewarding and fulfilling.
