We are looking for Industrial Placement Software, Systems & FPGA Engineers to join our Electronic Warfare & Cyber Security teams for 12 months as part of a university degree. The role will be to provide input to the design, implementation and testing of embedded and general control software projects in a communications environment.

We’re looking for the next generation of excellent Engineers who will continue to innovate in our business and deliver to our customers within the defence industry. As an Industrial Placement Student, you will receive top quality, on the job training for our Senior Engineers who will coach and develop you in order for you to become an experienced Engineer yourself later in your career.

'Cerebrum' is the TRL Technology future talent programme that launched in 2016 to support our apprentices, industrial placements, sponsored students and graduates.

Today, it supports over 50 individuals at the start of their career with TRL, helping them develop their skills from day one to help them fast track the start of their career and give them the opportunity to become the future technical leaders of the business.

Being part of the Cerebrum programme means you can expect the following support and development:

  • Bi-weekly tutorials to expand the breadth and depth of your knowledge throughout different departments by experts in each field sharing their skills. These tutorials range from HR to Finance to Hardware to Firmware.
  • Peer learning, once a month the group comes together to have a shared learning experience. A small selection will pick, research and present a topic that is both of interest to the group and the company and then discuss.
  • Training & development days, three times a year the group will take a day out of their schedule to do some specialised training. This training varies each time however it often involves elements of team building and is something that is enjoyed by everyone attending.
  • One-to-one reviews with the Cerebrum Lead every quarter to ensure that each individual is progressing and receiving the right amount of support. In these sessions target progress, development over the past couple of months and any career aspirations are discussed.
  • Additional responsibility for those who it, we offer them to opportunity of becoming a Rep. The Reps look after a certain area of Cerebrum and encourage them to develop relationships with both those in and out of the group.

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Studying a degree in an electronics/physics/engineering related subject
  • Skilled in Software Development (C/C++ or other OO languages )
  • OR skilled in VHDL development for FPGA
  • OR skilled in Systems Engineering and the ability to understand and specify large complex of a wide range of engineering disciplines
