Are you looking for a science related placement that gives you 12 months’ industry experience? We have a number of vacancies available each year across our sites.

What are we looking for?

We look specifically for students studying degrees in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical, Chemistry, Material Science, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology, and to be successful you must also be a good team player, willing to help others, and keen to learn what it is like to work in industry.

Where Are Our Placements?

Health Science and Innovation

This is a great opportunity to work alongside our qualified scientists in our GLP/GCP accredited laboratories.

Small Molecule - Bioanalysis (Fordham, Cambridgeshire)
We use LC-MS/MS to analyse pharmaceutical samples from clinical trials. You will gain hands on experience of UPLC and triple quadrupole mass spectrometry.
Degrees required: Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or related subject

Large Molecule - Bioanalysis (Fordham, Cambridgeshire)
We use immunoassay techniques to analyse pharmaceutical samples from clinical trials. You will gain hands on experience of immunoassay and cell based techniques.
Degrees required: Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical or related subject

CMC (Fordham, Cambridgeshire and Sandwich, Kent)
We use LC, GC and ICP as well as MS techniques for the trace analysis of small and large molecule impurities in drug formulations, to ensure they are safe for patients to take. Also, we test physical properties of drugs through a variety of material characterisations, such as microscopy, PXRD, IGC-SEA, DVS, gas adsorption, DSC, FTIR, laser diffraction). You will increase your knowledge of all things to do with a regulated laboratory and its techniques, from validation, sample analysis to investigations and reporting.
Degrees required: Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Material Science or related subject

Microbiology (Fordham, Cambridgeshire)
We perform MIC, MBC determinations in microorganisms, anti-infective drug efficacy testing, screening for novel antimicrobial compounds, identification of microorganisms using MALDI-ToF, and molecular characterisation. You will gain both practical and theoretical knowledge in applied microbiology.
Degrees required: Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related subject

Standards

This is a great opportunity to work alongside qualified scientists in our ISO accredited laboratories.

Human Testing (Fordham, Cambridgeshire)
We use of a variety of sample preparation techniques (including SPE and LLE) and instrumental analysis techniques (mostly LCMS and GCMS) to analyse of a variety of human matrices for the presence of drugs of abuse. You will be involved in both routine sample analysis and method development primarily.
Degree required: Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry or related subject

Supplement and Feed Testing (Fordham, Cambridgeshire)
We use a range of sample preparation techniques (including SPE and LLE) and instrumental procedures (GCMS/MS and LCMS/MS – including High Resolution Accurate Mass technology) to analyse a wide range of sample matrices to ensure products are not contaminated with banned substances. You will be involved in a range of activities from high throughput testing to custom investigative analysis.
