About E.ON

E.ON is one of the world’s largest power and gas companies. Across Europe, we supply energy that powers everything from streetlights to transport and helps millions of people to go about their daily lives. It’s incredibly complex work, driven by a simple vision. Everything we do is directed towards making life that little bit simpler for our customers.

Engineering Governance Placement

Our customers’ safety means everything to us at E.ON. To deliver safety, we ask three questions of all our products. What can go wrong? What systems are in place to prevent things going wrong? Do we know these systems will work if needed? They’re questions you’ll soon become very familiar with.

What you’ll do

This is a Year in Industry placement where you’ll learn close-up the technical, legal and commercial risks an organisation like ours faces. You’ll help in the ongoing review, development and improvement of our Independent Review of Integrity and Safety (IRIS) framework – an eight-step process which helps assess risk, answers our questions and maps out solutions. This includes:

  • Creating a consistent risk assessment methodology and risk reporting framework
  • Facilitating a gap analysis for UK businesses
  • Developing an incident response process for safety-related incidents
  • Creating a channel to share safety-related best practice and learnings.

This placement could well prepare you for a future with us. Shine and we may fast-track you to the last stage of assessment for one of our graduate schemes. Equally, with the chance to explore our business whilst you’re here, you never know what other career opportunities it could lead to.

What we’re looking for

  • You’re working towards a 2:1 engineering degree.
  • You’re eager to learn methodologies – such as Bowtie / HAZOP / HAZID – that support our IRIS framework (if you don’t already have some working knowledge of them already).
  • You have a good knowledge of Microsoft packages, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • You’re willing to challenge the status quo and search for ways to do things better.
  • Ideally, you have some German language skills.
