Communications & Public Affairs Placement

We are looking for talented individuals to undertake a 12-month paid work placement, as part of our Business Placement Programme. You will work in our Communications and Public Affairs department, starting in September 2017.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a global automotive industry leader. Public Affairs handles areas such as media liaison, news distribution and promotion of Ford’s corporate reputation in the media, utilising vehicle launches, motor shows, sales updates and other business announcements as news hooks. The team is organised around Product (vehicle launches), Corporate (business and financial news) and Internal (employee) communications. Each team is led by a manager, supported by press officers each with their own specialism.

Typical intern responsibilities might include:

  • Project Management of a news story or event marking a Ford launch, handling event organisation, agency and media inquiries and researching answers from internal material/contacts, setting up media interviews etc.
  • Progressing the PR Plan behind a launch by organising invitation lists, arranging flights and hotels, booking vehicles, inspecting venues, drafting documents or sourcing photography
  • Responding to media calls, organising answers to questions in a presentable media response
  • Becoming a company ambassador dealing with journalists and other influencers daily, learning the skills and knowledge required to represent a market leader as large as Ford
  • Being responsible for elements of Ford’s Social media landscape including Facebook and Twitter
