About Land Registry

Land Registry is a government department created in 1862 to safeguard the ownership of land and property in England and Wales. We provide the vital function of giving assurance and confidence to the property market, with the Land Register underpinning land and property ownership worth more than £4 trillion, including more than £1 trillion of mortgages.

Land Registry Information Systems is an award-winning, in-house IT department that builds and maintains the systems and infrastructure used by Land Registry staff. We also develop and support external services used by thousands of customers from banks and solicitors to journalists and the general public.

It’s an exciting time as we deliver and move over to new ways of providing our services. We are on a transformational journey to create a fully digitised register, building a contemporary digital platform for land and property. Within Information Systems we are using agile methodologies to deliver new and improved services using a variety of software and hardware. These include award-winning services such as Property Alert and MapSearch.
