Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement

Overall Mission

This role is part of the Software, Electronics and Mechanical Systems (SEMS) team, which is part of 3M's Corporate Research Laboratory. This R&D facility interacts across all business divisions within 3M, so this role has ample opportunity for real responsibility, in a team going through significant expansion.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting, and in some cases leading, mechanical aspects of 3M product design and engineering across a variety of business and product groups. In this role you will:
  • Play a key technical role working on real products and solving real problems
  • Work across all 5 of the 3M businesses and get to understand 3M's diverse product portfolio
  • Use state-of-the-art Computer Aided Design tools to develop, simulate and evolve designs
  • Be hands on, turning your ideas into reality using our lab prototyping equipment including 3D printing
  • Gain wide and broad experience in a highly technical environment for the benefit of yourself and 3M.

Requirements

  • Right to live and work in the UK
  • On track to achieve a 2:1
  • 300 UCAS points or equivalent qualifications including STEM subjects
  • Valid UK driving license preferred, but not essential

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • IT literate
  • Good practical skills / technical knowledge
  • Previous experience is desired either as long term or short term placements.
