Legal and Compliance Placement

The role supports those advising Volkswagen Financial Services in the UK who protect the business from legal, regulatory and compliance risks.

It will involve working within a fast paced commercial environment to ensure that strategic and business objectives are supported and delivered whilst legal, regulatory and compliance risks are monitored and controlled. The role itself covers a broad spectrum of commercial activities, including commercial contracts, financial services regulation, corporate and retail finance, data protection, compliance monitoring and corporate governance.

The role will allow the incumbent to learn a wide range of Legal and Compliance approaches, methods and disciplines and how these are interpreted.

What’s involved?

• Support legal workflows for allocated business areas
• Provide advice in areas allocated by Head of Legal Services & Compliance
• Support the provision of accurate and timely legal opinion/advice through the interpretation and impact of law and regulation
• Support the drafting and review consumer finance agreements, commercial contracts, securities and other documentation (from inception) for the business areas in a legally compliant manner in accordance with Company policies and business requirements and keep appropriate records
• Update on new legislation and regulations and assist in identifying the risks associated with the firm’s business activities and evaluating the adequacy of key controls in place to mitigate and manage the risks
• Liaise with the VWFS AG Legal function in Headquarters as required
• Participate on key business projects, as required.
• Work with the Compliance team as appropriate to ensure a consistent delivery of regulatory services to the Company and ensuring appropriate understanding within Compliance of the impact of regulation to our business
• Support in Compliance monitoring based activity and the production of reports
• Produce and manage relevant information through to senior management
• Track and follow-up findings and actions identified as a result of monitoring and review work
• Assist in the maintenance of a regulatory policy suite to ensure it remains up to date with regulatory requirements and ensure that it is effectively communicated to staff. Support in the annual policy review.
• Support the Marketing team in providing copy approval for financial promotions

Requirements of the role

• Studying towards a Business/Law related degree.
• Demonstrates an understanding of regulatory principles, sources and interpretation.
• Good interpersonal and team player skills.
• Resilient and self-motivated with the capability to work under own initiative.
• Ability to learn and apply new or unfamiliar knowledge quickly.
• Methodical, analytical and disciplined approach to work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Excellent PC skills, especially MS Office applications such as Excel and Word.
