Commercial Industrial Placements

Jacobs Douwe Egberts are looking for students for 12 month industrial placements at our Hurley (nr Maidenhead) and Banbury Offices/Production Facility. We pride ourselves on being able to offer placement students an experience comparable to a full-time associate. You will be given full responsibility and accountability for projects from the beginning of your placement and you’ll have an opportunity fully integrate and actually make a difference (no filing/photocopying here).

We are looking for placement students to be able to work independently and as part of a team and be comfortable working in a professional environment. All of our students will need to be confident and capable of taking ownership of a project as well as creating reports/presentations and periodically communicating key findings to stakeholders. Each year we have around 22 students based in Banbury and a further 5 based in Hurley. The students work very closely together, with student charity and social activities given time alongside your daily workload.

Traditionally our students have always developed strong bonds and working relationships that last well beyond their time at JDE. Finally, at busy times, you may be expected to support other ongoing project activities outside of your immediate team and, for some disciplines (particularly R&D and Operations), international travel may be required.

Requirements for our Industrial Placements:

  • Currently studying on a relevant degree or masters course or recently graduated
  • Naturally inquisitive, technical problem solver and passionate about technical excellence.
  • Open to acquiring new skills and able to demonstrate strong analytical, communication and presentation abilities.
  • Pro-active, highly motivated, ready to take on new responsibilities and build strong relationships.
  • Analytical skills to turn complex technical data into actionable recommendations.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and able to learn new applications.

Placements within our HR team will be both varied and challenging and will offer great exposure to real world projects, employee cases and trade union relations.

The roles will sit within our finance function both in Hurley near Maidenhead and Banbury and there are two routes a placement student could go through

  • Professional Finance - Hurley. Supporting our Professional team working on commercial projects on identified process and reporting gaps. This would be an all-round commercial finance role covering specific ongoing project work, month end, balance sheet and validating/checking contracts
  • Split role across Manufacturing and Retail Finance – Banbury. Initially working with Manufacturing looking at material yield, labour efficiency, utility costs, month end etc. Then a shift to Retail with a role supporting a customer with their Financial Management Information and some regular tasks – e.g, Daily Sales, promotion reporting etc.

Category Management/Account Management

These roles will sit across both our marketing and sales functions and we one placement in each function. They will be based in our Hurley offices near Maidenhead. The various role types will require either General Business, Marketing or other more specific degree programs.

  • Revenue Planning - is linked to the sales and marketing teams and involves the evaluation of promotional activity within our brands like TASSIMO, Kenco, Douwe Egberts etc. It will also involve the creation of reports/insights on that activity and analysis of competitor strategy
  • Category Development - which is linked to both sales and marketing also. This role would involve the development of insights and strategies for the activation of new products and brands in the UK. Also, working with our customers to create analysis tools to enable reporting on the success of that activation.
