How do you shape the future of engineering?

Siemens are hosting a Women in Engineering event on October 21st in at our UK headquarters in Manchester. Apply now to be in with the chance of attending!

If chosen, you will have the opportunity to network with hiring managers, interview for potential roles and listen to a variety of our senior female engineers as well as take part in Q&A sessions with some of our current female engineering graduates.

As of 2020, women only make up 25% of all jobs in STEM industries – Siemens want to tackle this head on and ensure our workforce is more equal by celebrating female students in STEM and giving them the chance to pave the way for their future engineering careers.

We're looking for the decision makers of tomorrow, the talented and ambitious female engineers to take on new challenges in Europe’s leading engineering and technology company. We want both undergraduates and graduates to help Siemens shape entire industries, cities and even countries across our businesses.

We’re looking for talented individuals studying any of the following subjects:

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Software Engineering
  • Computer Sciences
  • Robotics/Mechatronics
  • Automotive, Aerospace or Railway Engineering

So who are Siemens?

In your application, you will be asked to specify which one of our innovative and exciting divisions you are interested in working for, here’s a quick summary of each to help your decision (p.s. you can click on each division name to learn more about them):

Mobility: From delivering and servicing trains for use in the UK, to intelligent signalling and traffic systems, our mission is to help get people and goods to where they need to go. Did you know we have delivered over 370 trains in the UK which travel more than 65 million miles per year.

Digital Industries: Digital Industries is an innovation and technology leader in industrial automation and digitalization. In close cooperation with our partners and customers, we are the driving force for the digital transformation in the discrete and process industries.

Smart Infrastructure: Smart Infrastructure combines the real and digital worlds across energy systems, buildings and industries, enhancing the way people live and work and significantly improving efficiency and sustainability. We work together with customers and partners to create an ecosystem that both intuitively responds to the needs of people and helps customers achieve their business goals.

What kind of opportunities do we have on offer?

We have a variety of different exciting programmes that we will be recruiting for on the day:

Intern Development Programme

We put our interns to good use. Here, we’ll challenge you with new ways of thinking and set you targets that will make a genuine impact on the business. All the while, you’ll follow a structured programme that will capture your imagination and lay the foundation for a meaningful career. By encouraging you to demonstrate your early experiences in a practical environment, we believe our IDP is just as beneficial as your degree. When applying for your dream job or graduate scheme, who would you rather be? The candidate with a great academic record? Or the one with a great academic record and a full suite of industry skills, taught by us?

Graduate Development Programme

This two-year scheme will teach you how and why you should go the distance at a company with global influence. We generate electricity in third-world countries. We shape infrastructure in major capitals. And we’re the link between our time and the all-digital future lying before us. You’ll make your mark on all kinds of projects, honing skills that are essential if you want to surpass all expectations. We’ll provide training and support that will be invaluable to you for years to come. But, we don’t hold your hand either. From day one, you’ll take ownership of your interests. Your achievements will be all your own and you’ll decide how best to progress.

Summer Placement

As well as our structured Intern and Graduate Programme’s, we also take on students over the summer for 3 months. Here you’ll get an introduction to the world of a global company. This will be mainly project based work where you can get a taste for what our company is about and gain some real life, valuable work experience to kick start your future career.

How do I apply to this exciting event?

Simple. Please upload an up-to-date CV and a cover letter explaining why you think you deserve a place at our event (ensure you think about how important it is to have equality and diversity in the STEM environment). We will ask you a number of questions so we gather some more information on you. Your application will then be screened by our recruiters and we will be in touch to advise next steps.

Make sure you keep 21st October free in your diaries and best of luck with your application!

What else do I need to know?

If selected, Siemens can cover any travel expenses incurred (up to £100) when making your way to our Manchester site and we will send out further details of how to get to the office nearer to the time. Lunch will be provided on the day and we will need to know of any dietary requirements before-hand.
