The vacation scheme was great because it we got to experience such a wide range of things and meet many people. There was a good mix of work, socials, networking, and skills building. It was hard work, but you get a lot out of it and the week flies by.
The two week vacation scheme was a very enjoyable experience, it was a great mix of the work and social side of Allen & Overy. The team I was working with was keen to involve me in ongoing deals at the firm, which made me feel very involved. Everyone at the firm is incredibly friendly and approachable; I met many members of the firm for coffee and played football in the gym hall.
Very enjoyable insight. We gained a unique insight into Allen & Overy in a way which was not only beneficial but also interesting and fun. Throughout the scheme we were looked after extremely well. You have the chance to return to the office after the initial visit and this was fun because you meet individuals you have networked with previously.
It was a holistically great experience. As a non-lawyer I felt very informed and was impressed at the number of people that I was given the opportunity to interact with. I especially enjoyed (and continue to enjoy) talking to my trainee buddy, This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions who epitomised A&O's friendly atmosphere.
I very much enjoyed the Allen & Overy First programme. Being able to spend an entire day in the office in March and coming back in September was a valuable experience. The graduate recruitment team put a lot of effort in the First programme to make is as useful for first-year law students eager to gain an insight into a Magic Circle firm. We took part in different workshops and learnt about the skills a commercial lawyer needs.
A&O First Step was a great experience and offered first year law students a valuable insight into this Magical Circle law firm. The graduate recruitment team was so helpful, and the early insight that they give you into the Vacation Scheme application questions is invaluable. I really enjoyed the experience, particularly the opportunity to re-connect with university students that you met on your first day of the programme.
I thought the two days provided an incredibly useful insight into Allen and Overy. In particular, talking to my trainee buddy allowed me to see what life at Allen and Overy was really like. I also found the presentations by the graduate recruitment team as well as the business challenge both useful and engaging.
I found A&O first particularly enjoyable. There was a perfect balance between informative presentations, networking and more interactive challenges, such as the negotiation exercise, which was particularly enjoyable. Additionally, I found that 'speed-networking' allowed me to found out a lot more about the different practice areas at the firm in a more relaxed environment.
It was one of the best first year law schemes that I had attended, mainly because it was not only one day, but two half-days spanned across a few months. This ensured continuity and the room for participants to establish a sustained relationship with their buddies, who are current trainees at A&O.
I enjoyed the insight massively. The tips given for applications were excellent and I am extremely grateful for the time and effort put in by the graduate recruitment team to make the presentations as informative as possible. I also really enjoyed the group activities (both the negotiation and business game) as these were fun but also gave us an insight as to what the kind of work is like at A&O. The opportunity to interact with Trainees, Associates and Partners was also really helpful as these conversations help to build up a profile of the firm in your head. I really liked shadowing my trainee buddy on the first day and speaking to another buddy on the second day.
I enjoyed the insight day very much. I was impressed by the knowledge and confidence of all the A&O employees I encountered, and though they made clear the skills required to become a successful commercial lawyer. Additionally, the ability to network directly with one of the firm's Partners was both valuable and insightful.
