About The Dispute Service

TDS started in 2003 as a voluntary scheme for Tenancy Deposit Protection. In 2007 it became a legal requirement for all tenancy deposits to be registered with a scheme. Two different types of schemes were awarded by the government, Insurance and Custodial. TDS England Wales was award an Insurance Scheme. In 2012 when the legislation came into Scotland a TDS set up a separate subsidiary called SafeDeposits which was awarded a Custodial Scheme. In 2013 TDS Northern Ireland was awarded both an Insurance and Custodial Scheme.

We’re not for profit and don’t have any shareholders. This means that any surpluses can be put back into the business to improve the service for our members. We support our members to meet their legal obligations to protect tenancy deposits and allow them to retain control of the deposits so they can better manage the end of tenancy process.

Where tenancies end in dispute we can provide a free and high quality adjudication service. This enables our members to focus on their core business of letting homes successfully, safe in the knowledge that deposits are properly protected and disputes can be handled. Through our expert advice, education and training services we help our members minimise disputes, keep their customers happy and drive down the cost of deposit protection.

TDS has achieved Investors in People status. Our employees are supported in developing and improving, have open communication at all levels with effective feedback, and all employees are encouraged to put forward new ideas and to challenge the status quo.

The TDS offices in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, are open-plan, modern, spacious and a comfortable environment to work in.
