First and foremost, the team I worked with was very friendly which made settling in easy. It also made day to day work more enjoyable, particularly knowing that I was surrounded by people who were happy to help me out. Besides this, the network of placement students and interns was well established at the beginning. By sharing our experiences the first few weeks in the office was made less daunting. I was given a variety of objectives over the year which kept me engaged with the role and gave satisfaction upon completion. I also knew that if I had too much or too little work my managers would be receptive to a sensible conversation around it.
I really enjoyed my placement year at National Grid. I was treated as a full member of staff, with real responsibility over important work. There was a great environment for learning with lots of support for development.
I really enjoyed my time on placement with National Grid. I had the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of different tasks which gave me great on the job experiences. In addition to that, I found as I became more experienced I was given more responsibilities and that helped me to grow in confidence within my role. I also felt that throughout the placement year, my soft skills grew and I became much more confident in communicating.
I found the internship exceptionally rewarding. It was great to be given work that is directly applicable to the work of my team and to also have the opportunity to produce a document that will go to industry with my name on it! I found the placement challenging but it there was great support from my 'unofficial' line manager. The only slight taint was I felt slightly separated from the day to day work of the team as the document would be used in future, rather than something that is useful now. It might have been good to feel a little more involved. However, the team was very friendly!
The internship was really enjoyable. I learned an awful lot during my time and National Grid about my field of interest. The support provided throughout the programme in terms of careers advice and training and development was excellent. The work was varied and interesting over the course of the 12 weeks. The people at National Grid were friendly and approachable. I learned something new every day and now have a great understanding of the business. Overall it was a very good experience.
I did enjoy the insight very much - it was a good insight into what life as an engineer at National Grid entails. The National Grid are always looking for people with strong scientific or engineering skills to join them. I was made to feel welcome at all times and they invited me back for a full time position.
I have, so far, really enjoyed my placement at National Grid. I have been challenged and given plenty of responsibility which has hugely helped my development. It is great to be able to use the theories and knowledge learnt as part of my degree and apply them to the work I do everyday.
As my first official office job, National Grid's placement offered a great deal of training and support to allow me to settle in. I enjoyed all aspects of my role, with new challenges and opportunities arising everyday allowing me to learn and better myself throughout my placement.
I'm really enjoying my placement with National Grid. This is really a job where no two days are the same and there are a number of different challenges in the role. I have also gained a great deal of knowledge from more senior members of my team which I am sure will be very useful for my continuing studies. As well as that, I have been able to visit site regularly which I have enjoyed.
I have found the industrial placement to be extremely enjoyable primarily down to the vast range of things you get up to, including things such as visiting sites, volunteering, training events and working with your team to perform well. National Grid provides endless opportunities for individuals to grow and take on challenges which in itself is an enjoyment.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with National Grid. It was particularly great for me to see real investment and structure offered to the student programs. For Instance, the first week consisted entirely of training at National Grid's dedicated training center - where we were provided with excellent accommodation and food. The first day in the office consisted of being immediately involved in a project that felt both engaging and worthwhile. Throughout the placement I felt as though I was accommodated in every way - with the opportunity to work from home when appropriate e.g when I had a doctors appointment. I was also offered opportunities to visit different departments, sites and NG locations which I found incredibly rewarding. There were some initial challenges I faced such as payroll, which meant a short delay in when I was paid - however this was resolved promptly and those involved worked tirelessly toward the solution. Furthermore some Formal Training was promised via the role profile, however due to reasons I do sympathies with this was not delivered - it definitely feels that this is the exception with NG, as everyone else I have spoken to has communicated their countless opportunities to engage with formal training. At times I have also struggled slightly with clear direction regarding deliverables, although this can also be seen as good learning experience for myself in defining objectives and communicating with management.
The placement I chose to undertake was enjoyable in the sense that it allowed me to come into contact with a load of different people and teams whilst gaining experience and knowledge in an area which I want to go into in the future, however there is a huge emphasis on personal growth and trying to push boundaries which is good but can be nerve-wrecking at the start.
I enjoyed my placement area and found it very applicable to my degree and my future career. I enjoyed the community amoungst the interns and appreciated the week of training we had to get to know one another before entering the workplace. The team I was on was incredibly nice and it was very interesting to see their daily jobs.
I did enjoy my placement, it was in a very interesting area of the business, and was a very different placement than my previous one. The work I was given on my placement was very hands on and practical, and allowed me to plan and arrange my own work around objectives I had been given
8 - I really enjoyed my placement with National Grid for a number of reasons. Very flexible working hours and locations allowed me to comfortable and efficient in my tasks, going to site and seeing different projects not only helped with seeing what I was actually doing as a result but also helping my technical knowledge.
