Jordan's Experience as a Trainee Chartered Accountant

I joined Smith & Williamson's assurance & business services department as a graduate in January 2012. Even though I had done a lot of research, I still had little idea what to expect. l have been shocked at how much I've learned in the short amount of time I've been here. For me, the Smith & Williamson difference is the warm, friendly and social environment. Everyone is always eager to help with any questions you have.

You're introduced to the firm with a couple of weeks of internal training where you meet the rest of your year's intake and get introduced to accountancy and audit. You also meet the rest of the department over snacks and drinks, which is a lot of fun and a great way to meet your future work colleagues! The opportunity to work with a variety of clients makes every day interesting. It also provides you with a strong and broad experience of business and commerce in general. So far I've worked on clients in a number of sectors - investment management, IT, charities and housing associations. It’s challenging work – but there’s an active social life here too. We have regular Friday drinks and so far our team socials have included bowling and wine tasting!
