How much responsibility do you have?

My experience with Lubrizol has been so enjoyable because I have been given enough responsibility to grow, develop and be independent whilst having continuous guidance and support from my industrial supervisor. I have developed time management, prioritisation and communication skills from having the freedom to generate and present my own data in meetings. In addition to my own project I have performed other important work. I have also participated in many meetings enabling me to understand what drives the business and have a broader knowledge of Lubrizol products as well as the problems it faces.

What do you most enjoy about your role?

I like analysing results and trying to link them back to the theory in order explain trends. This is the most interesting part for anyone who enjoys chemistry because it’s where you can make a difference through using your knowledge and findings towards improving product performance and successfully progressing with your project.

What has been your biggest challenge?

I think that my biggest challenge has been using my initiative to be independent and think for myself. This involves extra background reading/ deciding what the next step in your project is yourself and coming up with your own theories to data trends without always asking your industrial supervisor first.

How has this experience exceeded your expectations?

The experience has been more rewarding than I could have imagined. I have been given more responsibility than I expected. I have also gained a lot of valuable knowledge in the performance coatings industry. Moreover, I have made many friends who have made me feel like I belong to a team.
