Placement (10 Months+)

What did you enjoy the most about your placement?

I loved my placement, the level of responsibility and autonomy I was given was first class. Everyday had its own challenge and allowed me to learn something new. I wouldn’t have replaced anything about this placement; it has provided me with a strong platform for a successful career in the logistics industry.

How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

I was given a huge amount of responsibility. During our peak time at Christmas I was faced with the task of managing my own team of 35-55 agency employees and 15 warehouse operatives. This was a fantastic experience and taught me a lot about myself as a Manager. I have also been faced with some project work throughout my placement which was exciting and a good opportunity to show off my skills that I learned in university/school.

To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

Very valued! All my colleagues would always ask for my opinions and thoughts on new ideas that would be proposed, and despite having little experience they would always include me in discussions and debates about work related issues. The support and assistance they would never hesitate to offer made me feel comfortable and gave me confidence.

I also would like to mention the support that I obtained off the Graduate/Placement team at Gist Ltd. All year they were supportive towards me and it was so easy to pick up the phone and ask them for their advice. With their dedication and effort they made this year for me an excellent year.

How promising are the Graduate prospects?

Very promising in my opinion, I often hear success stories about Gist Graduates and even some of the Board Members at Gist came from a Graduate background so they view their Graduates as the future leaders and that explained to my why they invest their money and time in the Industrial Placement and Graduate schemes. The opportunities provided for Graduates are very appealing and the support from colleagues both inside and outside the depot is very advantageous for your development.
