THE BRITISH COUNCIL SUMMER INTERNSHIP SCHEME ATTRACTED ME BECAUSE:
I have always been interested in cultural relations, so was attracted by the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the British Council and how such a large organisation works across the world. The British Council also has a great reputation so a big draw was the chance to put that on my CV and be able to talk about the experience in future job interviews.
BEFORE JOINING THE BRITISH COUNCIL I WAS:
Working as Development and Communications Co-ordinator for an international multi-arts festival, a really interesting role that definitely helped me develop skills that have been useful during this internship.
MY INTERNSHIP WAS BASED IN CORPORATE HQ, WHERE MY MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES WERE:
Supporting the Corporate Communications team. This involved a lot of different responsibilities, including writing press releases, researching and writing content for the Corporate social media channels, helping handle major press releases and working on press campaigns for upcoming projects.
THE MOST EXCITING PROJECT I HAVE WORKED ON AT THE BRITISH COUNCIL DURING MY INTERNSHIP IS
The press campaign for DESH, a contemporary dance project being performed in Bangladesh for the first time in September. My responsibilities have included writing the press release, thinking of angles for UK press and working with the Bangladesh team and the dance company, which has been a great experience.
MY PLANS FOR THE FUTURE ARE
To stay working in cultural relations or arts organisations, and learn a second language, having met so many linguists at the British Council! To sum up my experience at the British Council in one sentence I would say…. An experience I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about a career in cultural relations.
