Undergraduate Research Engineer Review

I enjoyed the challenge of working with concepts I haven't really studied at university and the whole team were very welcoming and friendly.

I think that we got on well but I don't think I was perceived as being particularly useful, I felt a bit left out sometimes as if I wasn't being invited to certain meetings and kept up to date with business information.

Had a weekly 1:1 which was useful but left to my own devices the rest of the time, which generally suits me although I ran out of work sometimes and it was difficult to ask for more.

Often felt like I was dragging my work out to fill the hours, would have preferred to be busier.

It feels like very little however I am collecting data for an important project so it will depend on how much of it is used or altered before final presentation.

Not really anything degree specific but definitely soft skills and even general industry knowledge for returning to the industry after graduation.

Very friendly but very quiet - again this appealed to me although even I got a bit lonely sometimes!

Organisation has always been great with JLR, especially given I have often gone outside the process to pre-arrange my own placements rather than wait to be allocated somewhere. Generallt you're able to hit the ground running with induction and access cards and things.

Not much although I think this varies by department and job role. Good employee learning scheme though which supports (pays for) extra-curricular learning (horse riding in my case) as well as business related.

I'm on a sponsorship scheme and have already gone through an assessment centre, at the end of the summer I will be re-assessed again (much smaller than initial assessment) in order to convert that undergraduate place into a graduate job offer.

I think yes, if you are based at the Gaydon/Whitley sites but there are only a few of us based at Warwick university.

The Midlands is a relatively cheap place to live and places like Leamington Spa are quite studenty so you can get drink deals etc.

I lived at home so didn't go out much but again because Leamington Spa is student-y there are quite a few clubs/pubs/bars and plenty of restaurants depending on what you're into/

Not many although I think there is something being organised before I leave - I think there are team events every couple of months but this really varies by team.
