    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall the internship was a great experience! I learned a lot about the markets and the different roles within the division.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone at Morgan Stanley treated my like a colleague and they wanted me to perform well during the internship. I got a lot of support and help and every time I asked someone if they would have time to grab a quick coffee I always got a yes, even from very senior people within the firm.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During the programme I was given a buddy and a dean. The buddy is a more junior person within the firm and there for you if you have any questions etc. The dean is a more senior person and is a great person to ask if you want to get in contact with other people etc as he can help you introduce you! My buddy was super helpful during the programme and she gave me lots of advice, on how to succeed the offer and in general how to make the most of the internship!

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The 10 weeks are very intense, especially since being in an office environment is quite different from university so there are a lot of new structures etc to get use to. I was given projects by my desk and I would say it's very much up to you how much effort you want to but into it. I.e you could have 10 super intensive weeks, but that's because you chose too. People won't force you to take on 5 projects! You can always ask people for help as well, if there is something you don't understand or want feedback on.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility right from day 2 by working on a project which meant doing the research for one of the research reports that was going to be published during the fall. So you definitely get a lot of responsibility and people expect you to pick up things quickly and contribute to the desk where you're rotating. Of course, they don't expect you to know everything from the beginning, so it's all about asking questions and making sure your learn as much as possible!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that my degree and work experience is rather different. The studies are very academic unfortunately and seldom does it include group work, presentations and other useful things I learned this summer. Although, working under a lot of pressure has help me realise the effectiveness of deadlines and how to be efficient and plan your work when you have a lot of things you have to finish and not enough time!

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere on the trading floor is great. Everyone seem to be very passionate about what they are doing and it's also quite a relaxed environment, with not too many hierarchies since whole trading floor is open. You can be sitting next to your Managing Director but also the Associate.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The training week beforehand was great as you got a chance to learn a bit more about them markets, technical terms etc before you started. During the internship we also had lot of events and social activities to get to know the other interns as well as people from the firm. We also had a speaker series with more senior people from the firm which was a great opportunity to ask questions about how to excel within the firm or in you career in general

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We definitely received a lot of training not only before the internship but there was aslo excel sessions and bloomberg session throughout the 10 weeks if you had an difficulties. I'm also impressed by the fact that so many people in the firm took their time to sit down and explain things to me!
