The Role
A fantastic programme with plenty of opportunities to learn and develop skills and my network. The chance to work in such a large company for a year provides some great experiences which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I was in an extremely welcoming and helpful team where all my work was respected by my colleagues.
My manager and assigned mentor were always willing and able to assist me with any problems/concerns I had
I had daily and monthly responsibilities which meant that my workload varied across the month. I never found myself with nothing to do
The best aspect of my placement was the vast responsibility I was handed. As team members left, my responsibilities were furthered, with many of the tasks having conflicting deadlines. The responsibility kept me busy and allowed me to learn as much as possible
Despite being in a very specific area of finance, I was able to learn and developed multiple skills which will help me in my final year at University and a role when I return to a different team within the finance division on the Grad scheme.
The Company
A very large team with team members of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds meant that there was a very healthy atmosphere in the office
In the first 10 weeks of the placement we were presented to by senior staff from various teams across the company. We were also subject to reviews and invited to further, more division specific presentations across the year.
There is a vast online resource at Morgan Stanley with courses offering you the chance to learn about all areas across the entire firm. As well as this, within my team we had regular meetings, designed to educate the whole team on the many different reporting requirements - regardless of whether we would have any direct need for this understanding.

Working from home
I was fortunate enough to earn a role on the Graduate Scheme starting in 2014
The Culture
We would have relatively frequent catch ups and all got on well
I commuted from home and so was restricted to the amount of post-work socialising I could partake in. Despite this, I would try to socialise with my team and fellow placement students when possible. Living at home allowed me to save more money than renting in London
Nice bars and restaurants
I represented Morgan Stanley at football and there were plenty of societies which I could have got involved in
