The Role

Role Description

Supporting a sales team who sell the services which are attached the products that HP sell.
For me, I have to quote for the kit that needs servicing, applying discounts, making sure that quotes have been given to the customer on time.

Really enjoying myself! It is definitely worth doing a placement year to break up your studies at Uni. I have learnt many things within the world of business and feel much more prepared for when I finish my studies.

Supporting a sales team is great as you feel like you are part of the team, going out for team meetings and enjoying yourself. The sales people appreciate the work you do for them on a day to day basis, as well as my managers who I sit near.

I can always talk to either of my managers on a day to day business - whether it is by phone, face to face or online. I speak to one manager more often and she represents me more, while another manager I report into and work in his department more specifically.

It is by no means an easy ride. You can always ask to do other things within the business which is a real opportunity for you to see what elsethere is in such a large company as HP.

This is a real job. I have been given many tasks to do. I have had to cover a sales peron's job recently which was different to my normal job.
I have had to speak with customers and create quotes which go out to customers.

Once you get to know people around the office it is very enjoyable. There are people you know you can approach and ask stuff to which is nice.

At HP there is a dedicated contact who is in charge of the internships. We have had a trip to another HP office in Bristol which she set up so that we all got to know each other more and do team building exercises.

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

There were many training sessions set up for us in the first few months, dedicated to certain activities we do on a regular basis. This was generally covered by the previous interns during the handover phase.

There is a grad scheme which you have to apply to again. Obviously it is essential to network and build relationships with those at the company.

There are 60 ish interns so there are lots of us to live with, go out with and generally be around in the office. Many nights out, meals...

I live at home as this is where I am originally from but I go out and it is fairly cheap.

Pretty good although as there are so many interns wherever you are you know you're going to have a good time.

HP football intern team is good....led by one of the interns.

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

Working for HP is a massive opportunity so I would definitely recommend applying. There are so many areas and so many people that there would be a worthwhile career at the end.
