    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it, the work I did was really interesting and I learnt a huge amount from it as well as being able to help the company. The only downside was having to do a hr project when I had a lot of other department projects. It felt like it was in the way but I learnt a lot from it because we had to work across offices and LOBs so that was a challenge.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like I was helpful to them and they were always interested in what I was doing .

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a lot of support from my mentor and line manager as well as loads of others around me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy, at the start we had a fair bit of training so it took a while to get into my actual work, as well as this there were some issues with file access so I had a couple of days where I didn't have much to do but we had training exercises and compliance training to do so It gave me time for that. Once I got to the work, we were given 3 department projects which have a good representation of the actual work they do. One of these projects was on a live research project at the company so that was really interesting.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was let loose on a real project with supervision from a mentor and was doing jobs that would make a difference and needed to be done correctly.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They will be hugely beneficial. I worked hard and will definitely value my last long summer holiday now! But I learnt to code in a new language during the internship which will be very useful. Don't let this put you off if you're not into computing because I'm not, but this was a really good experience.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I had a great time. Some lovely park lunches and trips to the canteen. As well as a rounders tournament and some BBQs and drinks after work. So loads of opportunities to get to know people outside of the office which makes the atmosphere a lot lighter.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was great apart from access to files and software at the beginning, but this is easily sorted out, and I wouldn't have had much need of it right at the start anyway due to training.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave us a lot of training and my manager and mentor gave up an awful lot of time to help me, along with many others in the office.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I know that they take on a lot of interns and are on a strong recruitment drive at the moment but don't know what my situation is yet.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had lots of social events including a rounders tournament and BBQ across the whole office with about 13 teams entered. We entered an intern team and had a great time. We also had other nights in the pub and exam celebration drinks for those who had passed their actuarial exams.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in London, so that's expensive. Luckily I had somewhere to say and my travel costs were paid for by the company. Reigate isn't that cheap to go out In though.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reigate doesn't have a great nightlife but living In London, I got to experience that which was a lot better
