The Role
- Role Description
As a sales consultant my job was to offer a personal service to each customer I spoke to, dedicating time to listen to exactly what it was each client wanted from their golf break and doing my best to deliver it to them. My main daily tasks include the selling of golfbreaks, corresponding with golf venues including the building and maintaining relationships with them, sending quotes to clients, keeping my administerive duties in order (checking contracts and confirming bookings via fax). Other duties consist of attending meetings and providing my own feedback, visiting the venues we sell and generally assisting others when needed.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Fantastic year. I have learnt so much during my stay at Golfbreaks.com, from basic to more advanced skills that will prepare me for my later career.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Every member of the team is valued highly as everyone relies on one another to help and assist no matter how big or small the issue may be.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
The management and support we recieved from our superiors was fantastic, there is always help and guidence on hand when needed. Students also recieved new training and constructive advise on a regular basis.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Students are always busy no matter what at Golfbreaks.com. As the business is so successful the amount of customers wanting to go away on a golf break is huge. The phones are always ringing and even during the quieter times of the year there is always new work to do within other departments providing the oppertunity to learn new skills.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
When making your first booking you immediatley realise the responsibility you have been given. Customers are trusting you to arrange the perfect break for them and are giving you their hard earned money. It is up to us to make sure the break runs as smooth as possible so in essence the role is one of substantial responsibility.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
The skills learnt on on placement will definatley assist in my further studies and generally in life. For example, your organisation skills are hugley increased as the amount of clients you speak to is vast and they all have specific needs which need to be diarised properly. This also applies with communication and learning to adapt to the vast amount of people you speak to. The new skills learnt and the building of old ones really helps as it gives you a greater perspective and insite to how the business works.

Extreamley organised as the company has been employing students for several years.

Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
I have made friends for life at Golfbreaks.com. As there are several students starting with you it is very similar to a "freshers week" all over again in terms of meeting new people and going out and socialising. The company also arrange trips for staff to go away on weekends which again builds upon friendships.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Housing in Windsor can be pricey but finding a house is not to hard as there are also cheaper options in nearby towns. In terms of socialising the prices are the same as the majority of places.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Lots of clubs and bars in Winndsor, we have had some great nights out!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There is a huge golf following as you would expect at the company with people getting away after work to fit in some golf. There is also a weekley game of football.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
As a whole the placement experience has hounestly been one of the best choices I ever took. From the development of business skills to friendships it had been fantastic. I can walk away saying I have made some friends for life and have priceless experience of working for a very successful company that makes everyone feel valued and welcome.
