What summer placements are on offer?

We offer summer placements that typically last 10 to 12 weeks. These are aimed at students who have the skills and experience to add value to our company, as well as the potential to build a long-term career with us.

Our Marketing summer placement gives you the opportunity to work on a range of challenging assignments for our leading pharmaceutical brands. Supported by senior managers within GSK’s UK Commercial business, you’ll gain a valuable insight into GSK and the healthcare environment as a whole alongside developing your business acumen and marketing knowledge on a global scale.

A Finance summer placement will offer you wide-ranging experiences through different business units and offer exposure to many different finance roles. You'll do a real job, with responsibilities and deliverables, whether you're embedded within our research and development (R&D), commercial, manufacturing or corporate functions. Throughout you'll be part of our global finance community, with exposure to senior stakeholders, gaining a solid grounding in financial management and business awareness in a fast paced, global organisation.

A summer placement in Human Resources offers you the chance to gain experience delivering a project within one of our global HR teams including HR Services, University Relations, Talent, Leadership and Development and Reward. You’ll be supported by a number of senior managers who will deliver and mentor you to ensure your success.

Our Procurement summer placements offer you the opportunity to work with senior procurement professionals across our Commercial, Production, R&D, IT and Corporate Services departments. Procurement is a pioneering, influencing function ; we buy goods and services on a global scale alongside partnering with business units to drive value from supplier relationships to support GSK’s strategies and targets to ensure a secure supply in all areas of our business – from consumer health products to pharmaceutical development.

Our IT summer placement offers the unique opportunity to be involved at the heart of one of the most exciting and challenging learning environments in the company. IT within GSK is about utilising technology as part of our strategic journey to deliver life-enhancing healthcare that enables people to do more, feel better and live longer. We aim to provide you with an ideal blend of business and technical understanding during your internship.

Our Supply Chain summer placement programme will provide you with an in depth understanding of the supply chain process, giving you exposure to the end-to-end supply chain, key roles, logistics and a wide variety of related challenges. You will have the opportunity to build your knowledge and skills by working in cross-functional teams, attending educational workshops, working on projects and visiting one of our manufacturing sites. Your projects and other assignments will contribute to improvements in to help ensure patients and customers at the end of the supply chain get the right product at the right quality. Overall the placement is a great opportunity to learn how to make changes through cross-functional teams and give you the skill you can apply to real life issues and gain tangible results.

Our Engineering summer placement programme will provide you with an in depth understanding of complex manufacturing processes, give you exposure to a wide variety of issues and people, and help you to build skills in working in cross-functional teams. You may work on making improvements to the ways of operating in the factory and creating designs and analysis for how to make the process run more smoothly. Overall the placement is a great opportunity to learn how to make changes through cross functional teams and to apply your engineering skills to real life issues, and see tangible results.
