First year opportunities with PwC

Your career is just that; yours. You choose it. You live it. You make it happen. To get the best from it, you need the best opportunities. That’s why opportunities are at the heart of a career with us. And we’re proud, based on the opportunity we offer, that students have voted us the number one Graduate Employer in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers survey for the last ten years.

The Role

If you're taking a four-year degree course, which includes a sandwich placement then an eleven-month business placement at PwC is the perfect way to gain valuable industry experience during your penultimate year at university.

An exciting new 11 month fixed term contract opportunity has arisen for a Human Resources Business Placement (BP) to work within our Human Capital function at PwC.

Human Capital (HC) sits within our Internal Firm Services business unit and is responsible for providing generalist HC support across our business to our lines of service (Assurance, Tax and Advisory). The team acts as liaison, advisor and facilitator between the business and specialist HC support teams, ensuring the effective operation of PwC to meet its people agenda.

Your primary focus will be to concentrate on supporting the team's daily activities and workflow in order to manage the delivery of the day to day business priorities. The HC team works in a constantly changing environment, responding to new market developments to continue to support the needs of the wider business.

You will join one of our functions within HC which include Learning and Development, Student Recruitment, and Global Mobility. Preferences will be taken into consideration at interview stage and successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of their preferred area. In Birmingham and Manchester the role is for the Student Recruitment team only.

Based in our London, Manchester or Birmingham office, the BP student will take on administrative responsibilities. The placement runs for 11 months and gives extensive insight into the HC function at PwC.

Each BP student will have a dedicated People Manager to help shape their development. You will be encouraged to keep a log of activity which can be relevant to any later CIPD study. As part of the placement, you will be assigned a project to complete over the course of the placement, giving insight into the wider firm and HC community.

Who is this vacancy for?

Our undergraduate business placements are available only to students on four-year degree programmes that feature a sandwich placement element. The subject of your degree is not important.

You'll need a good academic record, and we'll expect you to demonstrate how you've used your initiative and team-working skills. You should also have done plenty of research into the area of PwC you'd like to join.

Academic Requirements

A minimum of 300 UCAS points (24 using the old tariff) and be on course for at least a 2.1 result in your degree.

Who are we looking for?

Successful applicants will be required to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt effectively in a continuous change environment. The embedding of best practice will be key as will be the proactive identification and flagging of HC service and process improvements

You will demonstrate:

  • An ability to manage projects
  • An ability to recognise potential risks to business and be confident in challenging others
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills
  • A high degree of attention to detail is essential
  • The ability to proactively plan and organise your own workload and the workloads of others with minimal supervision
  • An awareness and understanding of all HC processes and policies
  • Awareness and understanding of PwC, our lines of services, our business unit structure and our business strategy
  • An ability to communicate and flex your style
  • An ability to multi task

Do you need a Work Permit?

We cannot obtain work permits for Business Placements. However, if you're an overseas national in full-time education in the UK, current regulations allow that you don't need a work permit for these.
