About The Internship

This summer internship provides penultimate-year university students with experience in both a customer-facing role and a specialist function within Retail Banking and Wealth Management, with a view to developing a long-term international career in retail banking.

What To Expect

This internship is a minimum of eight weeks depending on location.
Your time will be divided between a role in a branch or contact centre and a role in a specialist head office team, such as product design. We’ll encourage you to take on responsibility and bring new ideas to the table, as a valued part of the team. The internship will give you an introduction to the range and complexity of our Retail Banking and Wealth Management business, and an understanding of the drivers of an excellent customer experience.

You’ll also have the opportunity to complete a challenging project that meets a business or community priority. This could focus on improving the customer experience, recommending process improvements, maximising customer leads or contributing to a fundraising activity.

Throughout the internship, we will support, guide and develop you, while our leaders will help you to be the best you can be, reflecting your interests and capabilities.

Learning, Development And Support

We’re looking for the future leaders of Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Forward-thinking, driven, perceptive students who enjoy being part of a team and are excited by new ideas. People who are dependable and open to different cultures.

During the internship, you’ll be developing critical skills in a fast-moving, customer-focused environment, which will stand you in good stead for your career. After a short induction to help you understand more about HSBC, you’ll move into a project that will have a tangible impact on the bank’s success, and benefit from on-the-job training and learning initiatives.

There will be many people you can call on to help you make the most of the experience. You’ll have the support of a line manager who can offer advice on your career options. A buddy will be assigned to you, who you can share ideas with and who will give you guidance and support. You can also expect to attend regular business and social events to complement your day-to-day role so that you can build your own network, which will prove invaluable in the future. There will also be the opportunity to take part in our sustainability initiatives, which will help you on your path to becoming a future leader of HSBC, while adding value to the communities in which we work.
