NSG is a leader in the global Flat Glass industry. It is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of glass and glazing products for the building, automotive and specialty glass markets.

The Group has principal manufacturing operations in 29 countries and sales in over 130. With half of our sales in Europe, a quarter in Japan and the rest primarily in North and South America, South East Asia and China.

In June 2006, the NSG Group acquired Pilkington, renowned for the invention of the Float Glass process, which revolutionized the world’s glass industry. The globally recognized Pilkington brand is widely used in our building products and Automotive businesses.

The Group operates in three main sectors. Automotive serves the original equipment, aftermarket replacement and specialized transport glazing markets. Architectural supplies glass for architectural and Solar Energy applications. Technical Glass products include very thin glass for displays, lenses and light guides for printers, and glass fibre, used in battery separators and engine timing belts.

The Role

A 12-month student placement is available within the ECM team, Group IS, at our UK Head Office in Lathom, nr Ormskirk, commencing in Summer 2015. The main purpose of the role will be to work with system requestors from the NSG Group core businesses to design and implement standardised ECM applications in line with the requestors’ functional requirements.

Placement Activities

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure Health, Safety and Quality is at the core of everything done in the workplace.
  • Work with business requestors to understand functional requirements for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions.
  • Design, build, document and test ECM Systems using Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and other standard content management systems.
  • Support the NSG Business in the use of ECM systems delivered by the ECM team.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise solutions onto core ECM platforms.

Key Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft core Operating Systems (Windows 7 and Server 2008)
  • Microsoft SharePoint 2010, IIS 7.0 and MS SQL 2008
  • Understanding and experience of web technologies such as CSS, Masterpages, ASP.net, Javascript, C#.

The Person

Applicants are not expected to have all technical skills listed but will be expected to learn these skills in a short period of time and should therefore be able to demonstrate equivalent technical and learning abilities.

Applicants must possess a strong understanding of business concepts, a results-oriented and analytical approach and the ability to quickly learn and exploit technology. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. The successful candidate will be a good team worker and able to take responsibility for achieving personal tasks.
