    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have had a great time working for Tesco. I have felt valued throughout the process and have gained strong relationships within the business. I feel like I have really contributed to the category and have been given real responsibility.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From day 1 I felt part of the team, I feel that my transition into the company was seemless. My contributions in meetings and discussions has been listened to and developed and I feel as if I have made a real, tangible contribution to the category. I feel that I have made long-lasting relationships within my team and category.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support and training throughout the internship has been beyond expectations. Early Careers run development days have been excellent. We have also had development sessions specific to our functions that have been really beneficial to take back into the day-to-day job. I have had weekly 1-2-1's with my line manager who has always been keen to develop my project and looking to maximise my experience.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout the internship I dont feel as if I have had a dull day. I have had a project to complete as well as day to day work. I have been keen to experence as many meetings as possible throughout my time with Tesco and my team has been very supportive in this, constantly inviting me to internal meetings as well as supplier meetings.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a lot more responsibility than expected during the inernship. This was something I was apprehensive about before starting at Tesco as I did not feel such a large company would allow an intern to have responsibility. However I have been supported in making decisions that have a real tangible result in the category which has been amazing!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that my time in Tesco has really developed myself as a candidate and person. One of my weaker attributes before coming to Tesco was public speaking however the experiences throughout the internship have greatly enhanced my confidence in this area. I also feel that I have developed buyer specific skills which will be very beneficial at university as well as my future career.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was really enegetic and enthusiastic. There was a real team atmosphere within the category which was brilliant to be involved in. I felt as a new starter that I was welcomed into the team really well and everyone made a genuine effort to get to know me. These relationships continued throughout my time at Tesco.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised. Everyone at early careers was very easy to communicate with and quick to respond. My team were organised with briefs prepared for my project as well as all the equipment that I would need to work. Development days were well prepared and we were notified of the timings well in advance.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel that the company has invested greatly in my development and time here. We have been given all of the equipment that we require as well as an amazing number of training days or sessions. People within the company have been brilliant in giving up their time to have 1-2-1 with me which has helped me to understand more about the business as a whole and

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Emplotment prospects within the company are brilliant. I had a sign off at the end of my internship and have been offered a place to come back on the graduate scheme which I am delighted about!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Tesco helped in creating the an online social network for the Interns. This was beneficial in creating conversation between everyone before we started. The intake has then been really good in organising weekly social events. Within the interns I feel that I have made some friends for life.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I have been lucky enough to live with some family during my internship. Socialising is more expensive than I am used to in Sheffield however some of the rooftop bars in London that we have visited have been well worth the extra money spent.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in London is brilliant. There is so much choice and different experiences offered. I have had a great time.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The opportunities outside work have been endless, with events, early careers activities as well as team social events and days out. I have also been able to play football as well as other sports in internal leagues.
