The Role
I was able to build on every experience and skill I wanted to this summer, thanks to a structured program and Dstl listening to my requests for certian tasks.
I was not made to feel like a student in a workplace but instead was treated as one of the team.
If I had any questions time was booked aside specifically for a one to one with a senior collegue to help me through any difficulties I was having with the task at hand.
The placement is what you make of it. There is always work to do, so if you want to learn and push yourself it is encouraged. Likewise if you have have the motivation levels of a sea slug, you may find yourself with not much work coming your way.
Again, the more you would like to take on the more you are given.
This summer I have been involved in developing software for mathematical based models. Which is almost exactly what I will be doing for my Masters project. So my placement could not have been more suited to preparing me for my next year at university
The Company
Fairly quiet. Everyone tends to just get on with their work.
Very. I had a complete plan, week by week of what projects I would be working on.
The company was happy to send me on MATLAB traingin courses, and allowed me to spend an enitre week of time off projects to just develop my programming capabilities.
