    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at ASOS. Throughout my year i learnt a huge amount. ASOS is a really welcoming place to work, which is fast paced and always new tasks and jobs to do on a daily basis. The workplace is lively and there are many social events throughout the year.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone within my team and Garment Technology was very friendly. I was treated as all the other assistants were on the department and not as an intern making tea and coffee. I was included in all the team meetings and even part of a mini-team within Garment Technology. By the end of my placement colleagues were coming to me with help and queries they have they i may be able to assist them with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly 1 to 1 meetings with my line manager, which were great to make sure i was on track with everything. In these meetings i was given new tasks and projects. Additionally throughout my year i had Objectives set for me, these then had to be completed by the following year.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At ASOS i was comfortably busy. I never had a moment where there wasnt something i could be doing. I was very busy at different times of the week, where i knew styles had to be shipped and approvals had to be realeased by a certain time. Working at ASOS has hugely improved my prioritising skills.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a very alrge amount of responsibility, the responsibilitygrew the longer i had been with the company. And by the end i felt i had alot of responsibility which i really liked. I didnt feel like i was being held back at all, which pushed me to my furthest potential.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills i have developed have prepared me for after university as i now know which area in Fashion i would like to pursue into. Additionally working at ASOS has helped me prepare for my Dissertation title. I have hugely benefited from the 'working routine' and feel i am now ready for final year at univeristy with a different attitude to when i left in 2nd year.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in Garment Technology department was always pretty high with a relaxed atmosphere and people always about to ask for help and advice. There are regular social events held within the team to get to know everyone and people are very friendly and chatty. The whole office always has a buzz and is very busy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is set up very well and there are a large group of interns at ASOS, so there is always someone to talk to if you need anything. The interns are invited to a breakfast with the CEO which is great as you get to ask anything you want and get a big spread of breakfast put on for you!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I went on a series of 6 Pattern Cutting Sessions in London. These were a day a week for 6 weeks, I learnt alot through these and would not have done them if it was not due to ASOS as they are very expensive. These courses will be very useful for my future career.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, as an intern you get a real feel for what it would be like to work at the Company. ASOS would be a great place to work, due to its popularity and how influential it is for the current 20-30 year old customer base market at the moment. As people are always talking about the new things on the website. If there is room for me I would love to come back!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes within Garment Technology there is a great group of Assistants who are all of a similar age. Who i have made great friends with, which made working alot of fun. We regularly went out for drinks after work and at the weekend. Within the team there were many social events including Bowling, Rollerblading and Ping pong!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is obviously expensive! I didnt live in London i lived at my family home so did not have rent to pay, but the commute instead! Buying food in the area is relatively cheap with lots of independant cafes and shops with lots of different nationalities of food avalible.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was pretty good. There were lots of pubs and bars around which was were everyone from the office tended to go on a Friday after work. Further up the street in Camden there are a few clubs and bars you can go to in the evening which are always good fun.
