    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my time at the firm and it gave me a great insight into what it would be like to train at Camerons. My only criticism would be, that as you are dependent upon trainees for work, the amount that I had to do did fluctuate throughout the two weeks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In particulaly busy departments I think that it can be difficult for lawyers to find work that you have the ability to do (or that they have the time to explain). However, all work that I did complete felt relevent and valued by the supervisor for whom it was done. I also found that people wree very generous with their time in explaining and giving feedback, and that most were keen to introduce themselves and welcome you to teh department.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I did not have to much contact with the partners or associates with whom I was paired, however all the trainees wre extremely helpful and always willing to explain work or provide advice and draw on their own experiences on the process as a whole.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At times I was very busy and the day flew by, at other times less so. I think that this really depends on the work load in the department that you are sitting in.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once I had proved that I was capable, I was found that I was given work that the trainee would otherwise be doing herself, so in this sense I felt a lot of responsibility to get that work correct.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that my experiences this week will certainly help me to secure a job in teh future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Clearly the lawyers here are working very hard, however there was an extremely friendly and fun atmosphere in both teh departments that I sat.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think that generally it was organised very well. Although I think that the timetable was weighted quite strongly onto the second week and could have been nalanced more effectively.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We gave a group presentation (with some feed back) and a negotiating exercise (again, with feedback). However, I think that the point of the vacation scheme was really for us to get a feel for working in the departments themselves and for the type of work involved.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 0/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I still have an assesment centre at the end of the week. None of the exercises we have done this week have been formally assessed, so I am unclear of the benefits of the scheme in this sense. However, it does secure you an interview and certainly gives you a good idea of the firm which will help in the interview.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The group of interns were really nice and we had two evening events organised by grad rec. However, on quite a few evenings we would go out fo rdrink after work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • There is a subsidised canteed whcih is pretty good value. Otherwise...London prices.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The office right by Barbican tube so easy to get to, and there are lots of good bars in Farringdon and Smithfield.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Other than the two events organised by HR, we were pretty much left to our own devices. We wree given contact infor for sports teams/CSR, but there wasn't much involvment beyond this.
