The Role
I enjoyed the internship. My first day was well planned and i revieved all of the nessasary IT equipment and trainging. All of the members of my team were very nice and welcoming. I started a job on my second day which i worked on for the majority of the placement. My job manager is very good. He always has time to discuss and explain things to me and is always helpfull.
I did not reviece very much work from colleagues that was not my main job. They did not have very much of the appropriate level or the time to train me for a short task. The work i have done on my main job has been valued by my team leader and job manager.
I reveived a good deal of support from my job manager. He always has time to discuss and explain things to me and is always helpfull. My team leader or acting team leader has always helped me or given advice when i have needed it. Other members of the team have also been more than helpfull with daily questions.
For the majority of the internship i was busy each day. My job manager very much gave me independant working, so i could work hard when i wanted to and progress the job at my own pace. There was a point towards the end of my placement when my work depended very much on his progression and i became less busy untill the work was at a point where i could work independantly again.
I was give a reasonable level of responsibility through out my placement. The responsibility was mainly in structuring my own tasks but also producing an important piece of work that fed into work for my job manager that allowed my team to have a new capability that will give then greater flexibility going forward.
I had taken this summer placement after i previously did a years internship elsewhere. I used the some of the skills i developed on my placement during my internship. Having previously had experience in a similar environment ment i could much more quickly adapt to the work i was given at the inthernship along with the new working environment. I feel i eased into the internship better and got more out of it from having the prior placement experience.
The Company
The general atmosphere was good. It was mainly quiet but good and interesting conversations could easily be started up. There was also quite a crowd that would go to lunch each day, so even if imediate colleagues were busy there was always some friendly people to go to lunch with. This site also have many clubs that any one could get involved in during the day ( mainly lunch time), that you dont get at most places.
My team leader was well organised. He promptly met me at the gate and took me for a coffee to chat about the compant and how it works. This gave me a good understanding of what to expect and how the company all fits together. I got a laptop / IT on the first day along with the nessasary training. On the first day i also got to choose from a small list the main job / area i would work on during my internship within the team.
There was little opportunity for any training or development with the work that i was doing. If I had been working on a project that required training i am sure my manager and team leader would have given me the nessasary training.I did however get to go to an off site meeting with a customer and also visit one of the manufacturing facilities a customer operates which was very exciting.

The future jobs look very interest. They do not have a graduate scheme however which many of the other companies i would be looking at do. They do encourage chartership and professional accreditation which i think is positive, and they seem to support this. There are a few sites around the south of England that operate different departments and working between them is also allowed.
The Culture
There was a good group of interns and graduates that regularly met for pub quizes and nights out.
Reasonable. I managed to move into a room in a student house for the summer and so had reduced summer rates.
Good, there are many attractions.
Not any that involved colleagues other than the interns and graduates.
