    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an amazing time, I never had a day where I woke up not looking forward to coming to work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt highly valued by all of my colleagues, and even though I was a placement student I was treated with the same respect and given the same responsibilities as even the most senior members of the company.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We had a very thorough training period in which we were very well supported while being prepped for our job roles, we also had monthly reviews with our mentors to help us with our development.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is always something to do and I never found myself bored with no work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility, as much as any other member of the company. I feel as though this did wonders for my development over the year.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During my placement I worked in many different areas, from web design to database management. This has given me a wide spectrum of invaluable experience which I'm sure will be a massive help in my future studies.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly atmosphere, there were regular social events and there was plenty of fun to be had in the office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was set up very well, my supervisors had planned my induction through to my inclusion into the dev team very well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lighthouse invested almost 2 months worth of training for me, in which time they had me put up in a nice hotel. They also gave me the time for mentoring meetings and regular updates. They went above and beyond.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I would love to go back to Lighthouse, even if it were in a different role.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Pub every friday and very frequent social events :D I couldn't ask for more than that. I have made some good friends

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted from Brighton, however the times we did go out were paid for by lighthouse so I'm not sure.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As I commuted from Brighton I only went out a few times, but the nightlife was pretty good, much livelier than I thought crawley would be.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of opportunities, including football and golf.
