    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship at Warner Bros. was an amazing experience, in very few companies could you have such a dynamic experience. The work load is large, and hours can be long, but this runs alongside the level of responsibility and importance of the tasks you are given.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There are a numberof tasks which are managed purely by interns, for example, organising company conferences. The feeling that you are the only person with the answer to a particular question is an experience that you very rarely feel at University, and thus significantly increases a sense of responsibility. Completing these tasks well was praised with presentations and gifts, which I really appreciated. On a daily basis, I did feel gratitude for completing tasks well, particularly from members outside my team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During my internship I went through three role changes, and four management changes. This caused a certain level of instability, particularly in the weeks after the changes were made; when tasks overlapped between two managers. Whilst this was a valuable learning experience, and meant that my understanding of the business is much broader than if I had maintained one role. Changing manager so often has meant that my relationship with them is not as strong as that of my fellow interns, which I felt would have made my experience better.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Too busy! The number of tasks I have had to handle has been intense. This was not necessarily a bad thing, and I did find the 'Christmas lull' really boring! The workload has sometimes meant that tasks were not completed to the standard I would have liked to achieve. Once again, handling such a large workload has been an invaluable experience in time management, and one I would not change.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given large levels of responsbility for some tasks. Completing reports which were presented weekly to management, and organising events attended by the entire department, and external agencies. On reflection, this was a lot of responsibility, however I did yearn for larger responsibilties in different areas during my placement, and would have liked to work closer to a film title release. In my final role at Warner Bros I have worked in a much smaller department, which has allowed me to make more key decisions.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There is not a single aspect of my work placement which I felt has been a waste of time. I have learnt how to use a multitude of globally used business programmes, e.g. Siebel, SAP. Learnt how to conduct myself in a business environment, manage my time, and communicate effectively. On returning to University I feel I will be much more prepared to tackle tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The whole team are really friendly, and working on a floor with theatrical, publicity, sales and management meant there was a wide variety of characters. Whilst the nature of some people's jobs is very stressful, there is a sense of 'getting on with it', the atmosphere is very up-beat, and often comical!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The majority of interns have seemed to have a seemless experience. The aforementioned management changes have made my time a little more disjointed, but HR hosted a number of intern training courses and welcome days to make the experience easier. I do feel that a central induction pack would have been a good idea, and being assigned a mentor within the team (not your manager) would have really helped me in some tasks. One week handover with your previous intern isn't really enough.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • No training course was 'off limits'. In addition to the internal courses I was also encourged to complete external excel training courses.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would very much like to return to Warner Bros, ideally in my final role in the company in the Cross-Category or Theatrical departments.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Made some great friends with the interns, which will defintiely continue after the placement. additionally, made great connections and working relationships with a number of agencies. Often taken out for dinner and drinks with colleagues and agencies which made for great 'team bonding'.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London living is expensive, but I felt my wage and work perks sufficientlly covered all expences.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are activites happening almost every night at Warner Bros. I often went with customers to premieres, and hosted screenings for retailers.
