    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been incredibly amazing to work with a multinational company like GE Capital, gaining the experience to work with different vendors, worldwide based colleagues.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was like any other member of the team, I was working as a full time employee. My work had huge impact on the overall outcome, which made me active and aware towards the work I was doing. Also, the feedback, encouragement, appreciation and motivation that I received from the members of the team gave me confidence to express my thoughts and I felt that my views were seriously considered and if appropriate, they were incorporated.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Unlike some people at GE Capital, I was lucky to have my manager behind my back in the same office. She helped me through difficult tasks with her expertise knowledge in many work related areas. She gave me her continuous guidance and support throughout the whole year. If there was something I was unsure of, I would need to ask her and she will arrange some time to help me in that area.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • If I had a lot for me to cover, I could go to my manager and say that this is what my milestone is and we worked out the best possible way to get things done in time. If one day, I didn't have much work to do, there is always work within the team or you could ask your peers if they need any help.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was working on a Sigma project, which was my manager's responsibility first but later they assigned the project to me. So my main project was working with developers to get the dashboard completed and making sure there was enough communication within the team, and that the right product was created. So, I was given real high impact projects with real responsibilities

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All these skill are transferable skills which will stay with me forever and will be used in my final year and day to day life too. These are the must have skills that one would need in their life to be able to successfully proceed and having practiced these skills at GE are going to make great different in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a balance between work and fun. We had a building where we had Senior team in the ofice too, so atmosphere wasn't always funny. But haing said that, whenever the team got together, the office was all live and fun environment. So it was never boring because people were always coming to see the senior managers each week, so it was a perfect balance of work life and entertainment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Pretty good. My manager was very excited to have me on board and she had very well defined my timings, roles, responsibilities, projects, team that I was going to be dealing with. My internship went very smooth in a way that everything like this was pretty much set up for me.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have had to go to London office for the meetings with my team every week and the team invested the stay over and travel fair for me. For personal training as well, for workouts we have had to go to the main site in london and that was paid for each time.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Have very good chances to join the team, my manager wants me on board and in September I am going to be notified when they open the opportunities and interns will be reviewed first which means I have really good chance to get in if everything go well. It wouldn't have been possible if I didn't do a placement.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we had a group of interns from GE Capital, so 12 of us used to get together on work out days or even sometimes just after work. It used to be preplanned and this was communicated to the intern team well before the day of event. It wasn't only us people within GE Capital, the invitation was always forwarded to people in Corporate, GE Energy, GE Finance interns etc. So being full time interns we didn't let the spirit and flame of being University students turn down.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was in Reigate where the cost of living was about £700 for one bedroom flat. The cost of socialisng wasn't too bad, there were some nice places to go to after work which weren't too bad (mind you, you will be earning like a full time employee so it wouldn't feel expensive).

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • To be very honest,we didn't have a lot of outings in Reigate office itself, whenever we were down to London Office, we were most likely to go out. Nightlife in Reigate is ok though, there are a few pubs by the offfice where by you can chill and grab a quick drink.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, things like volunteer, cross business communication, helping other people outside your team, etc. were very popular and these activities give interns like us a good reputation as it shows that you are willing to take an extra step.
