    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Massively enjoyed the internship. This placement is certainly the most fun and most engaging job I have ever had. Would strongly recommend it to anyone who thinks they might be at all interested in programming.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Highly valued, everyone seemed interested in the progress of my project.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very good at giving support and guidance. I was sat next to him and felt comfortable asking questions but was also encouraged an appropriate amount to think of answers myself.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had plenty of work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't entirely in charge of the direction of the project but this suited me as I was quite inexperienced when I joined.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot of programming which will clearly be useful for future careers. Metaswitch were very good at communications exercises too. I gave two assessed presentations over my time there.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My internship was broadly well organised. Only thing I would say is my manager did not seem to know my current level of experience when I arrived (zero).

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot! I already mentioned the assessed communications exercises and my manager helped me to learn a lot.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Massively! Have not yet applied but I certainly will.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not especially, there weren't very many of us there. I socialised much more with the regular staff.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Acceptable, living in a city is always expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were many things to keep me occupied.
